Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAc LEMON Mironn ELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa, have invented cer tain Improvements in Ore- Crushers, of which the following is a specification.
In the class of stoneand orecrushers` in which an oscillating aw is arranged opposite a liXed jaw, as in my United States Patent, No. 947,667, dated January 25, 1910, it is highly desirable to effect quickly any required adjustment of the fulcrum of the movable jaw. It is impracticable to do this by a single device or means of adjustment when the movable jaw is to be set for crush ing coarsely and it had been previously .set for crushing finely, or vice versa. In brief, then, practical provision must be made. to adjust the block on which the lower portion of the movable jaw is fulcrumed very quickly within a wide range, and then' to provide other means for further adjusting suoli fulcrum block in order to set the movable jaw in the exact position required. It is further desirable and requisite that the means for adjusting shall be very strong and durable and also adapted to be constructed at small cost.
To the above ends, I have devised the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illus trated in the accompanying ravving, in which- Figure l is a central, vertical, longitudinal section of a crushing machine embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2--2 of Fig. l.
l indicates a Xed jaw, 2 a movable jaw, and 8 an eccentric mounted on a shaft, whereby a `compound movement is imparted to the movable jaw as usual in this class of machines. The strut 4, on which the lower end of the movable jaw 2 is supported, is fulcrumed on a block 5. Instead of such block being provided with means for vertical adjustment as is common in this class of machines, it is seated against the inclined face of a larger block 6 whose back or rear side is vertical and bears against the vertical face 7 of the box-like frame 8. It is requisite that the fulcrum block 5 shall be adapted for quick adjustment, to provide for quick change from one eXtreme to another, that is to say, from coarse to fine, or
fine to coarse crushing. I have provided foi' this by means which are distinguished by strength and durability and which add practically nothing to the cost of the frame or box. In other words, I provide the opposite longitudinal sides of the box 8 with a series of horizontal ribs 9, the same being located one above another and spaced a uniw form distance apart. It will be understood that these are duplicated on the inner sides of the boX, and they are cast integral therewith. The lower end of themovable j aw 2 is held in contact with the strut d by means `of the rod l() having the usual attachment comprising a spring l1 and hand-nut l2. As shown, the block 5 fits somewhat loosely between adjacent ribs 9, and may, therefore, be quickly slid into and out of the spaces between them. Not less than three ribs 9 should bearranged on the sides of the box 8, since this will permit at least one adjustment of the fulcrum block up or down, but preferably four ribs are employed so as to provide for very wide adjustment.
It will now be understood that if it be desired to set the machine for crushing coarsely when it has been used for crushing finely, the block 5 is removed from its position and placed in a higher notch or space between the upper ribs, and that then the large wedge-block 6 is adjusted upward or downward, as the case may be, in order to further provide for any required variation in the adjustment of the fulcrum-block 5. In other words, the block 5 may be adjusted easily and quickly to approximate a certain adjustment, and then the wedge-block 6 may be adjusted to further shift the fulcrum block 5, if required in order to set the movable jaw for crushing slightly more coarsely or finely. This coarse or fine adjustment, which is effected by means of two blocks adjustable separately and in a different manner, is practically of much im aortance, as has been demonstrated; besides, the means for effecting such adjustment are distinguished by solidity, strength, and durability, and may be produced at small cost.
It is to be understood that I employ struts of different lengths when required. For instance, if the fulcrum block 5 be placed between the two upper ribs 9, it is necessary to employ a longer strut than sufces when the fulcrum block is arranged between the lower ribs.
