SAFETY WATCH-GUARD.

Beit known that I, ROBERT IVAnsOWd citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety ratch- Guards, of which the following is a specification. i

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in. safety watcliguards, and has for its object to provide such a device which shall be cheap in construction, eilicient in eperation, and so arranged that it maybe attached to the inside of the pocket in such position that the ring of the watch-stein may be readily engaged therewith and disengaged therefrom by the nearer and yet will preclude the accidental removal of the watch from the pocket.

Vith these ends in viewthe invention eensists in the details of construction and conn bination of elements hereinafter set fortli,an d then specifically designated by the claims.

In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may understand hoiv to make and use the same, I will describe its construction and operation in detail, referring by number to the accompanying drawings, forming a part oi' this specification, and in whichM Figure l represents a pocket the outer fabric of which is cut away, showing the Watch in its natural position within said pocket, its ring being in engagement with the safetyguard; Fig. 2, a central section of the guard, showing the method by which it is attached to the inside of the pocket, and Fig. 3 isa view of the washer, showing the position of the actuating-spring therein and its connection with the pintle.

l is a hook, se formed as to readily be engaged bythe ring 2 of awateh, and this hook is adapted to fit over the end of the hollenT rivet 3, by means of which it is secured to the fabric 4 upon the rear side of the interior of the pocket. This rivet 3 has formed upon its rear end a cup-shaped Washer 5, so that in securing the device upon the fabric the rivet is passed therethrough, the hook placed upon the end of said rivet, and the latter headed down, so as to bind the hook and Washer against either side of thc fabric.

(i is a safety-latch, the shank '7 of which passes through the center of the rivet and is threaded upon ils rear end to receive the threaded nut 9 is a spring coiled about the shank '.7 and having one of its ends passed through a suitable hole in said shank and the other secured Within the hole l0 in the Washer, as clearly shown in Fig. 3, so that the latch will be given a spring tendency, 1whereby it will normally bear against the end of the hook l.

Vll is a nose formed upon the end of the latch which projects beyond the hook, so that said latch may be pressed backward against the resiliency of the spring U for the purpose of disengaging the watch-ring from the hook, as will be readily understood by reference to the dotted lines in lfig. l.

Freni this description it will be obvious that the wearer of a Watch having niy iinprovemcnt attached within the watch-pocket may readily engage the ring of said watch with the hook by pressing the safety-latch back, and when the ring is thus engaged it will not be possible to remove the Watch from the pocket, either by accident or intentionally upon the part of another, but when the wearer desires to remove the Watch freni the pocket this is accomplished by pressing the Watch ring backward and downward against the safetylateh with sniicient force to open the latter against the resiliency `of its Spring, when the ring will be free to 'be withdrawn from the hook, so that the danger of a Watch being stolen is entirely overcome, as Well as the liability of said Watch accidentally falling out of the pocket when worn by a person en gaged in pursuits which require violent movements of the body.

My intention is to apply my device to the Watel1pocket of a waistcoat or other garment When said garment is made, but it is obvious that it may with equal facility be secured Within the pocket of any garment at any time.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful isl.
