CHARLES RODOLPHE SPILLEMA NN, OF LA CHAUX-DE-FONDS, SWITZERLAND.
WATCH OR JEWELRY CLIP.
" Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1914.
Application filed May 11, 1914. Serial No. 837,865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES RODOLPHE SPILLMANN, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing at 49 Rue du Nord, La ChauX-de- Fonds, Switzerland, have invented a new and useful Improved Watch or Jewelry Clip, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved attachment for a watch, article of jewelry or the like ,upon a garment. This attachment comprises a projecting part adapted to be fixed in an opening made in the garment, in combination with a safety button capable of being screwed into the said projecting part from the inside of the garment. Moreover, means are provided assuring on the one hand the fastening of the said stud or button in its fixed position, so as to prevent any accidental displacement of the stud or button with the projecting part of the object to be secured, and on the other hand, enabling the release of this stud or button at will by the operation of a moving part.
In order more clearly to describe the invention, it has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows a transverse section of the apparatus as applied to a watch case, the stud or button being shown separated from the other part of the apparatus. Fig. 2 shows a similar section to Fig. 1, but having the stud or button screwed down upon the rest of the apparatus. Fig. 3 shows a plan view of a watch case portion of the fixing device. Fig. 4 shows a plan view of the safety stud.
The apparatus is constructed as follows :-Upon the bottom a of the watch case b there is soldered or attached the casing 0 provided internally with a bolt d which tends constantly under the pressure of the two springs e placed in the interior 7 of the piece 0 to press by means of the two projections 9 against the two corresponding edges it provided at the top of the casing c. The casing 0 possesses at its m1ddle part a cylindrical cavity 2' internally screw-threaded and destined to receive the threaded bar is of the safety stud Z. In the stud Z are formed on the side of the part In two notches m, in which notches there engage two corresponding projections 0 of the bolt 01, when the stud is screwed down into casing 0, so as to insure the locking of the stud Z. In order to beable to disengage the stud Z at will, the stud is pierced with an axial hole p, which affords passage to a pressure bar 9 fixed at the free end of a rod r attached to the bolt d. l/Vhen pressure is applied to the part 9 the bolt 01 is moved in the interior of the casing c in opposition to the springs e and so that the projections 0 escape from their respective notches m. The stud is then unlocked and may be unscrewed.
In Fig. 2, the casing is shown as secured upon a part of a garment t, which possesses an aperture 3. In order to secure the watch case or the like 1) upon the garment, the user first passes the part 0 into the aperture 8 made in the garment and then screws from the opposite side the stud or button Z until the projections 0 of the bolt cl engaging in the corresponding cavities of the stud 5 effect the locking of this latter. In order to release the safety stud, when it is desired to remove the watch case or the like I) from the garment, it is necessary first to unlock the said stud which takes place by exercising pressure upon the bar 9, so as to release the projections 0 from the notches m.
\Vhat I claim is 1. Apparatus for securing an object to a garment comprising in combination a casing fixed to the object and adapted to be inserted in an aperture in the garment, an internally threaded cylindrical cavity in said casing, a fixing stud having a part adapted to screw into the cylindrical cavity, a locking bolt, springs in the said casing adapted to press the locking bolt against the fixing stud. and means for releasing the stud from the locking bolt.
2. Apparatus for detachably securing an object to a garment, comprising in combination a casing fixed to the object, an internally threaded cylindrical cavity in said casing, a fixing stud having a part adapted to screw into said cylindrical cavity, said stud provided with notches, a duplex locking bolt in said casing provided with projections, spiral springs in said casing adaptname to this specification in the presence of ed to force said projections on the said lock: two subscribing Witnesses. ing bolt into the cavities in said fixing stud and a pressure bar in said fixing stud adapt- CHARLES RUDULPHE SPILLMANN' 5 ed to press back the locking bolt from the Witnesses:
