Description

E. G. KOHL.
COMBINED KEY RING ANDNAPKIN HOLDER.
APPLIGATION FILED JUNE 4, 1.90.9.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915. Y
ELISABETH GODEY KOHL, or SAN MATEO, QALIFORNIA.
COMBINED KEY-RING AND NAPKIN-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1915.
Application filedJ'une 4', 1909. Serial N 0. 500,180.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELISABETH GoDEY KoHL, a citizen of the United States, residing in' San- Mateo, in the county of'San.
Mateo and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Key-Rings and N apkin-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates broadly to a combined article of use which is adapted to be attached to the clothing of the user.
The invention relates specifically to a combined key ring, chain and napkin holder" as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The object of the invention is to provide a key ring and napkin holder which is of especial use to portly gentlemen, in that the device prevents the napkin from slipping from the lap of the user, thereby insuring that the napkin is held in position and thus obviates the necessity of bending over to pick up the same from the floor.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device which because of its combined utility, will be constantly worn by the user, thus providing that it will be on hand when needed. Also since it is adapted to be used as a key ring, the keys will form a sulficient weight'to hold the napkin on the lap of the user.
The-device will be more fully described hereinafter and the scope of the invention will be indicated by the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, like numerals indicate like parts throughout the several figures.
Figure 1 shows the device as an article of manufacture. Fig. 2 shows the device as it would be used. Fig. 3 is a modification.
This invention comprises a key ring 1,
which is formed of a loop 2 of sheet steel or other resilient metal, having a cut or opening 3 through the loop in order that keys or other articles of a like nature may be attached thereto. A portion of the device is formed into an elongated part 4 which is provided with a slotted opening 5. The key ring portion is formed with a arge opening 6 which is separated from the elongated slot '5, by means 'of an arc partition bar 7, which prevents the keys from getting into the slotted opening 5.
A chain 8 which is attached to the loop 2,
by means of the ring 9, at one of its ends, is fastened at its other extremity to a ring 10, which is formed integral with the holdmg anchor 11. The anchor 11 being in tended to look over a button is provided with an enlarged part 12, and an elongated portion 13. The part 12 being provided with an enlarged opening 14 which continues into a contracted opening 15 in the holder is retained in the-key ring in such a .relatlonshl'p asnot to extend far beyond the contour of the key ring.
The operation of the device is as follows: The anchor 11 is slipped on a trousers waistband button in such manner that the key chain permits the key ring to rest in a trousers pocket. When the device is to be used as a napkin holder it is removed from the pocket, the napkin 16 is inserted "in the opening 5, and drawn into the slotted opening 5, in such manner as to wedge the cloth tightly into the narrow passage 4, the result being to retain the napkin in the holder. 7
The keys 17 on the key ring instead of being a detriment, are a help in providing a suflicient weight to assist in holding the napkin in place. The chain 8 is, of course, the main element by which the napkin is securely held after it has been properly fastened in the holder.
Having fully described my device what I claim as my invention is In a device of, the character described, an are shaped member adapted to retain keys,
