Be it known that-I,.MIQHAEL DUSETZZlNA,
-asubject of the King of Hungary, residingat Rankin, in the county of Allegheny and Stateof Pennsylvania, have invented cer- 'ta1n'new and useful Improvements in Hat- Pin-Point-Protecting Devices, of which the following is a speci cation, reference'being 'had'therein to the accompanying drawing.
- This invention relates to a hat pin. point protecting device, and the objects of my in- 'vention are to provide a device that serves as a guard for the pointed end of a pin whereby pedestrians or others cannot 'be injured by contacting with the pin, and to provide a device that serves as a lock for preventing a pin from becoming acciden- .facture, durable, and susceptible .to any desired ornamentation.
s With the above and other objects in view,
the invention resides in a novel construction, combination and arrangement of pants to'be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed. v
Reference will now be had to the drawwherein gure 1 is a side elevation' of the deviceas applied to a hat pin. Figt2is an enlarged longitudinal sectionalview of the dev1ce,.
and Fig. 3 is a perspective view ofla de tached device. 3
A device in accordance with this invention is made of two pieces of material, one piece being in the form of a resilient strip that is bent to a substantial U shape to pro-:
vide a guard 1, a bearing/[arm 2, and a rigid wall 3. The rigid wall 3kis bent upon itself, as at 4.- and terminates in a U shaped/ guide 5 having its free arm provided with a clamping member 6. The guide 5 has an opening 7 to receive the ,pointed end of a.-

and theclamping member'6. The resiliency of thatarm of the guide 5which carriesthe' clamping member is such a'sj to cause the lat-i ter' to. frictionally engage the pin 8 and the pointed'end of the pin is housed within the guard .1,"whereby a. person cannot .contact The bearing arm 2has v [6O a rectangularo en-' ing 9 and a portion'ofthe material out romsaid opening is bent to provide eyes 10 to receive a transverse pivot inll. .Soldered or otherwise connected to ,te pivot pin 11 is an angle locking member 12 that engages the clamping member 6 and locks said member in engagement with the pin 8. ;The
outer end of the locking member 12, is
shaped, as at 13 to providea finger .piece,
whereby the outer .end ofthe locklng member can beswung outwardly to shift the inner end of the locking member outjof engagement with the clamping I member- 6,
thereby releasing the pin 8 and permitting of said pin being withdrawn from the guide 5andtheguard1. The outer side of the guard 1 can be ornamented without, impairing the resiliency of the clamping member 6 or the operation of the locking member 12.- i
7 What I: claim is:- I
' A hat pin point protecting device made of being bent to provide a U shaped guard having one end thereof terminating in a two pieces ,of material, one piece of material bearing arm andthe opposite end thereof.
bent to provide a -U shaped guide within said guard, said guide having an opening, formed therein adapted to receive the pointed end of the pin, said guide terminating in a clam ing-member adapted to frictionally hold t e pin within said guide and said guard, and a pivoted angle locking member carried by the bearing arm of said guard and adapted to be shifted into engagement with said clamping member to look a pinsin said guide and'said guard. v In testimony whereof I afiix my signature -in the presence of two Witnesses.
