SAMUEL PERREY DAVIS AND CLARENCE EVERETT YOUNG, OF DANIELSON, CONNECTICUT.
BlLLlARD-CUE-TIP FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,504, dated August 25, 1896.
Application filed November 14, 1895 Serial no, 568,878. (No model.)
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, SAMUEL PERREY DAVIS and OLARENcE EVERETT YOUNG, citizens of the United States, and residents of Danielson, in the county of Windham and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Cue- Tip Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to billiard-cues, and particularly to means for securing the rubber tips to the ends thereof; and the object of the invention is to provide an effective device for this purpose which is simple in construction and operation and which is perfectly adapted to accomplish the object for which it is intended.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, said drawing being a side elevation of our invention, also showing the same attached to a billiard-cue.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a section of a billiard-cue, and a, the rubber tip secured to the end thereof; and in the practice of our invention we provide a clamping device, consisting of a casing B of any preferred form, in one side of which is a set-screw C, and said screwC and said casing are adapted to receive our improved clamp, which comprises two jaws D and G, one of which is secured within the casing B by a pin or bolt F, and the other of which is loose therein.
The jaws D and G are outwardly and segmentally curved, as shown at d and g, thus forming a circular space H, and said jaws are again united or brought together at K, where a partition k is formed, and beyond this the jaws are extended so as to form parallel arms or side bars L, the outer ends of which are united by a plate M, and passing through the plates M and 7a is a bolt 0, the inner end of which is provided with a head P, and the outer end of which is screw-threaded and provided with a set-nut R, and mounted on the bolt 0 and in order to accomplish this result, the
end of the one is passed through the casing B,
between the jaws D and G, and after having been properly adjusted the set-screw C is operated so as to securely clamp the jaws to the cue, and in this operation the rubber tip a is pressed against the head P of the bolt 0, and said tip will be securelyheld in place by the pressure of the spring S.
The position of the bolt 0 may be regulated by the set-screw R, and it will thus be seen that we accomplish the object of our invention by means of an effective device which is simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive.
Our invention is not limited to the exact form and construction of the clamp herein shown and described, and we therefore re serve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with a billiard-cue, of a device for securing the rubber tips to the end thereof, consisting of a casing B provided at one side thereof with a set-screw C, said casing being adapted to receive the dependent jaws D and G, the former secured within said casing by a pin F, the outer jaw being loose therein, the central portion of saidjaw being segmental or curved forming a central space and being united by an apertured partition is, beyond which the jaws are extended. parallel with each other and are united with an apertured plate M, and a bolt 0, passing through said plates M and K and being provided at the lower end thereof with a conin presence of the subscribing witnesses, this cave cap P, the upper end of said bolt being 8th day of November, 1895.
screw-threaded and provided with a jamnut R, and a spring upon said bolt adapted 5 to force the same downwardly, substantially as described. WVitnesses:
In testimony that we claim the foregoing FRANK SAMUAL DAVIS,
as our invention we have signed our names, FREDERICK W'ILLIAM SHORT.
