Be it known that I, LAWRENCE l/V. DAVIS, a

, citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe, in the State of New York, have invented an Improved Ticket-Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to an improved ticketholder, which improvement is fully described and illustrated in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, the novel features thereof being specified in the claims annexed to the said specification.

In the accompanying drawings, representing my improved ticket-holder, Figure 1 is a plan View. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section on the line 3 3, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is an end view as seen from the left hand in Fig. 1.

My improved ticket-holder consists, essentially,of the ease A,of any suitable dimensions adapted to carry a package of tickets T, which case is provided at one end with a removable cap or cover B and at the other end with a slot O, of a Width and thickness adapted to permit the escape of a ticket. The slot is located in the end of the case, near the top, in position to allow the uppermost ticket to be ejected through the slot. The end wall D, Fig. 3, of the case is preferably inclined outward, as indicated, to facilitate the discharge of the ticket through the slot. A spring E, Fig. 3, of any suitable kind or shape is used to press the tickets constantly against the top of the case. In the construction shown the spring E is attached to the inside of the bottom of the case at F, Fig. 3, at the end opposite the slot, so that the spring bears on the tickets on the end which is presented to the slot. The spring is secured to the case at F in any suitable way, as by rivets or solder. On the upper side the case is provided with a flexible or elastic spring or tongue G, which supports the reciprocating slide H, by the movement of which the uppermost ticket is discharged from the slot. The spring G is enlarged at its free end, as indicated at I, Fig. 1, or in any other suitable Way, so that the slide cannot be slipped off of it. The slide H is provided with a suitable friction, roughened, or serrated device, which engages with the outer surface of the outermost ticket and urges it outward through the slot, the end wall D preventing the escape of any of the rest of the tickets. In the drawings the slide is represented as provided with teeth or serrations J, which engage with the surface of the ticket. The slide is bent around the edges of the tongue G slightly, so that it is secured thereto, while being permitted to move freely lengthwise thereon, and it may be provided with a suitable projecting knob or thumbpiece K, by which it is moved. In the construction shown the tongue G is represented as formed integral with the top of the case, an opening being left around it on two sides and its free end, the sides of which opening are turned up to form guard-ribs L, which protect the slide from accidental movement. Where the tongue joins the top of the case it is preferably bent outward, as indicated at N, Fig. 3, so as to permit the full movement of the slide. The tongue may, however, be formed of a separate piece attached to the case in any suitable way. On the edge of the case, just above the slot, the top of the case is strengthened by the rib P, which may be formed by bending over the case or by soldering on an independent piece. This strengthens the case and maintains the proper width of the slot.

My improved ticket-holder is specially designed for carrying street-railway tickets, which by its use can be readily delivered one by one to the conductor or ticket-taker; but it will be understood that it can be applied to many other uses.

I claim- 1. The combination, in a ticket-holder, of the case, provided with the slot at one end,and having the elastic tongue at one side, the slide on the tongue provided with teeth adapted to engage with the outer ticket and to deliver it through the slot, and the spring adapted to urge the tickets toward the tongue, substantially as described.

2. The combination with the case provided with the slot at one end and having the clastic tongue at one side of the slide arranged on the tongue and provided with teeth adapted to engage with the outer ticket, and the spring attached to the case at the end farthest from the slot and arranged to bear on the tickets at its other end, substantially as described.

3. The combination of the case provided with the slot at one end, and having the elastic tongue in an opening at one side,the guardrib around the opening,the slide on the tongue provided with teeth adapted to engage with the outer ticket and to deliver it'through the slot, and the spring adapted to urge the tickets toward the tongue, substantially as described.

5. The combination of the case, provided with the slot at one end, and having the clastic tongue formed integral with the case on one side thereof, the slide on the tongue provided with teeth adapted to engage with the outer ticket and to deliver it through the slot, and the spring adapted to urge the tickets toward the tongue, substantially as described.

6. The combination of the case provided with the slot at one end and having the clastic tongue 011 one side, the slide on the tongue provided with a frictional device adapted to engage with the outer ticket and to deliver it through the slot, and the spring adapted to urge the tickets toward the tongue, substantially as described.
