JOHN W. ZIMMERMAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS; FEED L. MANTON ADMINISTRATOR 0F SAID ZIMMEBMAN, DECEASED.
TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Got. 27, 1914..
Application filed August 9, 1913. Serial No. 783,895.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN W. ZIMMERMAN, a citizen o-fthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toys, and has for its object to provide a new and improved form of toy adapted for shooting disks or pieces of thin material.
This invention is an improvement upon the form of toy shown in my Patent No. 9555, 192, patented April 19, 1910.
The invention consists in simplifying and modifying the structure shown therein, and has for its object to provide an inexpensive form of device adapted to accomplish the same purpose; namely, the proj ecting of disks or the like.
Other objects and advantages will be set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of my toy; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 8 is a bottom view thereof.
Like numerals refer to like I elements throughout the drawings.
10 designates generally a strip of metal or the like provided with the main portion 10 looped at 10 to form a handle or portion to be gripped, as is clearly shown in the drawings. Adjacent its other extremity the strip 10 is offset, as indicated by numeral 10, the extremity thereof 10 being bent backwardly on the offset portion 10. The inclined portion 10 extends between the main port-ion 10 and the offset portion 10. A. spring 11 is carried on the member 10, its extremity 11 lying along the offset portion 10 and secured thereon by the overturned extremity 10 of member 10. The portion. 11 of the spring strip 11 extends upwardly along and rests on the inclined portion 10 of member 10 and projects upwardly of the latter, as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
A disk holding member 12 is carried by the strip 11 adjacent its outer extremity, the holder 12 being bent around the extremity of strip 11 and provided with the upwardly extending spaced apart ears or lugs 12*. These lugs 12 are spaced apart a distance less than the thickness of the disks or the like to be projected and are slightly flared outwardly at 12 to permit insertion of such disks, the lugs serving to frictionally engage the same when placed therebetween, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. Outwardly of the lugs 12 the disk holder 12 is provided with the flattened engageable portion 12 and as will be apparent the looped portion 10 of the member 10 forms a handle or engageable portion which the user may grip and by pressing the thumb or finger downwardly against portion 12 of the disk holder, the latter may be bent downwardly to and nearly in contact with the main portion 10 of member 10; the strip 11 being formed of spring metal or the like, will resist such movement and upon release of the flattened portion 12, the spring 11 will throw .the'disk holder 12 rapidly to position, shown in Fig. 2 and a disk or the like carried therein will be rapidly projected through the air.
While I have shown and described my in vention with more or less particularity, I do not wish to be restricted to such showing or description beyond the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. In a device of the class described, a member having a handle portion and an inclined portion, a spring strip carried by said member and contacting with said inclined portion, said strip having a portion projecting beyond said inclined portion to a point adjacent to said handle portion, said projecting portion of said strip being adapted to be bent down, a disk holder carried by said strip and adapted to project a disk therefrom when released after bending down of said strip.
2. In a device of the class described, a member having an inclined portion, said member being looped adjacent one extremity and offset adjacent its other extremity, the inclined portion connecting the offset and main portions, a spring strip secured to said member, said strip having a portion contacting with said inclined portion of said member, and a portion projecting beyond said inclined port-ion and adapted to be bent down toward said member, and means carried by said strip to hold a disk for projection therefrom when said strip is released after being bent down.
8. In a device of the class described, a member having a looped portion adjacent one extremity, an offset portion adj acent its other extremity, an inclined portion extending between the offset portion and the main portion of said member, a sprin strip having a portion lying along the ofiset extremity of said member, the extremityv of said offset portion being bent over to engage and means to hold a disk and adapted to be bent d n rdly o a d sa d memb r n t project a disk therefrom When released after such bending. 15
In testimony whereof, I have subscribed my name.
JOHN WV. ZIMMERMAN.
