TARGET-WAGON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
Application filed September 23, 1916. Serial No. 121,794.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that HARRY J. Conn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bennington, Vermont, has invented new and useful Improvements in Target-lVagons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy in which a Spring gun is primarily utilized to shoot a miniature vehicle along the ground at a target or other object for the amusement of persons.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple device that can be easily manipulated by a child, and is operated by the compression of a spring for projecting the vehicle to any point aimed at by the gun.
The novel features of the invention are more fully described in the following specification and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure l represents a side elevation partly in section of a device embodying this invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan or top'view of the same.
Fig.y 3 is a side elevation of a target wagon.
In this drawing is shown a gun having a frame a; adapted to rest on the ground and a barrel Z) provided with a bore or socket c. A. coiled spring cl is arranged in the bore and a trigger or lever c is pivoted at f to a projection g on top of the barrel. The rear portion of the barrel has a handle 7L. whereby the gun can be steadied when operated.
As indicated in the drawing, the gun is adapted to cooperate with a small vehicle or wagon which includes a body portion 7l supported on a plurality of wheels j and having at its forward end an extension 7: provided with a puncturing device m to denote the place where the vehicle has impinged against a target orother article. A fixed stationary tongue or pole n projects from the rear end of the body and formed on the tongue near witnesses.
its end is a groove or depression o for engagement with the hook portion of the said trigger.
It will be readily understood that when the tongue is inserted in the socket of the barrel, it will compress the coiled spring as shown in Fig. l, the trigger will then engage the groove, hence holding the vehicle and gun together. llhen it is desired to project the vehicle from the gun the handle of the trigger is pushed downward by the operator to swing the hooked end upward, this releasing the vehicle which is propelled from the gun by the tension or the expansion of the spring.
I claim l. In a toy the combination with a spring gun provided with a trigger, of a toy vehicle having a tongue for cooperation with thev spring and engagement with the trigger.
2. In a toy the combination with a spring gun provided with a trigger, of a toy vehicle having a tongue for coperation with the spring, and a groove to engage the trigger.
3. In a toy the combination with a spring gun provided with a trigger, of a toy vehicle having a tongue for coperation with the spring, and a groove located 0n the tongue to engage the trigger.
4L. In a toy the combination with a spring gun provided with a trigger, of a toy vehicle having a tongue projecting from its rear end for coperation with the spring, and a groove located on the tongue for engagement with the trigger, and means at the forward end of the vehicle for denoting the place where the vehicle strikes.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing HARRY J. COLE. I/Vitnesses:
GRACE DE Von,
FRANCIS H. WARIIAND.
