SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,222, dated July 21, 1896.

Be it known that I, GUSTAV ALFRED PREUS- mm, a citizen of Germany, residing at Hamburg, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Braces, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the present invention is a new kind of suspenders, which are not, in the usual manner, secured to the pantaloons by front and rear buttons, but by two buttons secured to the sides of the pantaloons in the region of the hips. This arrangement permits to the body free motion and prevents the strain on and snapping off of the buttons when the body is bent. The new suspenders have still the advantage that the tightening or drawing of them up can be done in front in the same way as in ordinary suspenders.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the new suspender shown as in use. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 illustrates in detail one of the fastening ends.

Referring to the drawings, two straps a, of a medium elastic material, cross over the back at b, and are or may be connected above this point by a cross-strap I). From this part downward extend the elastic parts 0, which are united with the front portions 6 of the straps at, having means for engaging buttons d, which latter are secured to the waistband in the region of the hips.

The portions e are secured by the ordinary buckles to the straps a, so that a shortening or lengthening of the suspenders can be effected in the ordinary well-known manner.

In Fig. 3 is shown the preferred means for engaging the buttons, consisting of a forked piece g, which connects the two straps c and e, and which is provided with a slot h and a thumb-piece c'. This device is designed to enable the suspenders to be attached quickly and easily to the pantaloons or to be readily unfastened from the same, which is effected simply by taking the thumb-piece 2' by the fingers, Fig. 1, and by pulling the piece 9 under the button 61 and by thus allowing the piece g to slip under the button cl, which is effected by the action of the elasticity of the straps c and e.

I claim- 1. Suspenders in which the front and rear ends of the shoulder-straps are connected by the fork-shaped piece 9, which can be pulled under a button cl.

2. Suspenders in which the front and rear ends 0 and e of the straps a are connected by the fork-shaped piece 9, which can be pulled under a button (1, and which glides under said button by the elasticity of the ends 0 and e.
