I I I 27759171 I UN TED STATES PAT NT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM H. MCWHIRTER, OF ALGOMA, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- IIALF TO JOHN J. KING, OF NEW ALBANY, MISSISSIPPI.
BOUQUET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,208, dated June 30, 1896. Application filed November 22, 1895. Serial No. 569,779. (No model.)
.Toall whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. MoWIIIR= TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Algoma, in the county of Pontotoc and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bouquet-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is a lapel bouquet and pencil holder, consisting of a plate and stationary jaw, safety-pin, and hinged jaw operated by a spring.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a face view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is an edge view with the springjaw closed. Fig. 4 is an edge view with the spring-jaw open.
My invention is described as follows:
a is the plate.
I) is the safety-pin, having its spring end secured to the rear face of the plate, and its free end adapted to catch in the hook-eye 0.
cl is a jaw rigidly secured to the front face of the plate. e is a corresponding jaw hinged in the plate, having a projection f, which projects beyond the rear face of the plate and abuts against a spring.
9 is a spring having one end secured to the rear face of the plate, while its free end impinges against the projection f of the jaw e, holding said jaw open when it has been opened and holding it closed when it has been closed.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the plate a, stationary jaw d, rigidly secured to the front face of the plate; jaw e, hinged in the plate a, and having a rear projection f; spring g, one end secured to the rear face of the plate, and the other impinging against the projection f,- hook-eye c, secured to the rear face of the plate; and pin 1), its spring end secured to the rear face of the plate, its free end adapted to catch in hook c, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
2. A bouquet-holder, consisting of a plate, having a stationary j aw; a hinged jaw adapted to cooperate with the stationary jaw; a spring, holding said hinged door open or shut; and a safety-pin secured to the rear face of the plate, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM H. MOIVHIRTEB.
Witnesses: I
WILLIAM A. GoooH, JOHN D. FONTAINE.
