COMB.
N0.563,11z. PatentedJuneso, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY M. VILSON, OF BALTIMORE, MARYI IAND.
COMB.
SPECIFICATION formng' part of Letters Patent o. 563,112, dated June 30, 1896.
Application file. 'March 12, 1896.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARRY M. WILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in Baltimore city and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to an improved comb for barbers7 use, by which the barber in cutting hair is enabled to work around certa-in portions of the head of a person without brin ging the teeth of the comb into contact with the ear.
The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my preferred form of comb, showing the two end portions toothed. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the comb, showing but one end portion toothed. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of my comb, in which the lateral portion is in a raised plane with relation to one of the end portions.
In the drawings, A and B are respectively what I term the end portions of my comb, and C the lateral portion, all being formed integral. The comb may be made of any suitable material.
As shown in Fig. 1, the end portions A and B are in parallel vertical planes, and both toothed, the former having fine teeth c, and the latter coarse teeth b, the lateral portion C, which joins the end portions at a right angle to each, being without teeth.
The comb shown in Fig. 2 is substantially the same as the one shown in Fiff. 1, the only difference being that the end portion A, instead of being provided with teeth, is somewhat broadened to serve as a handle.
Serial No. 582,865. (No model.)
In the comb shown in Fig. 3 the end portions A and B are in different vertical and horizontal planes and both toothed, the portion C, proj ecting laterally from the end portion A, being joined to an upward extension b' on the inner end of the end portion B. When using a comb of this latter construction in cutting hair, more play of the scissorblades in the vicinity of the lateral portion C is permitted than is possible with a comb of the construction shown in Fig. 1.
The manner in which the comb is used With the result above indicated is clearly manifest from the drawngs.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A comb having two straight longitudinal end portions in parallel vertical planes throughout their lengths, and a lateral portion intermediate and joining the end portions, one of said end portions being provided with teeth.
2. A comb having two straight longitudinal end portions in parallel vertical planes throughout their lengths, and a lateral portion intermediategand joining the end portions, both of said end portions being provided with teeth.
3. A comb having two straight longitudinal end portions in parallel vertical planes throughout their lengths but in differenthorizontal planes, and a lateral portion intermediate and joining the end portions, both of said end portions being provided with teeth.
In testimony whereof I aftix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
HARRY M. WILSON.
