CARD-SHOOTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 562,187, dated J une 16, 1896.
Applicationiiled November 21, 1895. Serial No. 569,751. (No model.)
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE II. J UDSON, residing at Council B1uffs,in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented certain useful Improvements in Card-Shooters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable Others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention has relation to a new and novel improvement in cardshooters, the Object being to provide a light, simple device by means Of which cards and other light sheet material, when cut in proper sections, may be shot through the air.
In the accompanying drawing, the ligure shows a perspective view of my improved card-shooter.
My invention comprises, essentially, awire card-shooter which is made of a double strand Of wire. I begin my card-shooter with aloop A, which I end in a narrow twisted neck c1., and then coil the two strands in opposite directions to form a continuous spiral, (marked B and C.) The spiral I extend a suitable distance when the strands are carried inward and twisted to form the lever D, the strands terminating to form the spring jaw or clamp E. It is between these jaws that the card is clamped, which is tO be propelled.
The device can be Operated by placing the loop A into either the right or left hand and then drawing the stem D against the loop C B, so as to wind them up, as it were7 in the direction Of the arrow, and when the stem has been drawn back a suitable distance it is promptly released and carried forward by virtue Of these spring-coils until the dead-point is reached, when the stem D stops with a jerk, which gives the card-propeller a circular motion at the same time that it is propelled forward.
By means of this little device businesscards and other advertising-matter printed upon pasteboard and like material can be propelled several hundred feet either forward or upward and is adapted to be used both as a toy and a means Of distributing advertising material.
Now, having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is=
A One-piece card-shooter comprising a loop, the recurved strands Of which are wound in Opposite directions to form a spiral then carried toward One another, the stems being finally twisted to form a single stem terminating at the end in a jaw, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence Of two witnesses.
CLARENCE H. JUDSON.
