Description

0. W. STANFORD- Chum; I
"ggN'o. 56,115.- 1Patented July 3, 1866.
UNITE STATES OTIS W. STANFORD, OF LEBANON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,115, dated July 3, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OTIS W. STANFORD, of Lebanon, Warren county, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chorus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of churns having revolvin g dashers; and it consists, first, in devices by which every operative part of the, churn is removable, leaving nothing but the empty boX second, in devices for adjusting the belt-connection of thepropelling device; third, in the attachment of screwbladed fliers to the revolving dasher.
The accompanying drawing is a partly-sectionized perspective view of a churn embodying my improvements.
A is the box or vessel, provided with the customary covers B B. (l is a bracket secured within yet capable of removal from the staples D D. Y
The bracket 0 is provided with suitable journal-bearin gs for the hand-wheel E, pulley F, and pulley Gr, constituting, with belt H, the propelling device.
The pulley G is provided with a square center, 9, adapted to rotate the dasher. The put ley F is adjustable for the purpose of keeping the belt tight by means of the slotted bar I and set-screw J.
K is the churn-dasher, provided with stem L, which is fitted into a step, M, in'the churnbottom, and has a socket, 70, for attachment to the propelling device.
The dasher is fitted with screw-bladed fliers vN, journaled in staples, as shown, and adapted to rapidly revolve in opposite directions in the operation of the churn.
The propelling device 0 E F G g H is removable from the churn by slipping from staples D and socket 70 after the compression of the spring 0.
The dasher K, having nothing to confine it after the propelling device is removed, can he unshipped at will, when the covers B are taken oft.
I claim herein as new and of my invention The combination of the standard 0, catch D c, pulleys E G, and driver g, constituting a detachable propelling device, and arranged to operate, in connection with dasher K L, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
OTIS W. STANFORD.
