CLIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,342, dated May 19, 1896. Application led December 2S, 1895. Serial No. 573,] 06. (No-model.)

Be it known that I, WILLIAM CHIvEEs, a subject ofthe Queen of Great Britain, residing at Bristol, in the county of Gloucester, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clips, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clips, and more' particularly to clips adapted to be applied to the ball-heads of bicycles for the purpose of carrying the lamp.
This invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the clip, showing it open g. and Fig. 2 is a front View of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the clip, showing it closed; and Fig. 4 is a front view of the same.
G is a rod or tube to which the clip is attached, and the said part is preferablyT the ballhead of a bicycle.
A is the back portionof the clip, which is preferably semicircular in form and is provided with eyes B at its ends. The front part of the clip consists of two arms D, provided with pivots d, which are journaled in the eyes B.
C are projections at the opposite ends of the pivots d from the arms D.
E are inwardly-bent projections on the end of the arms D. These projections E engage with a loop on the lamp or other article to be supported by the clip, and they preferably have hooked ends.
The clip is applied to the tube G, as shown in Figs. l and 2, and the arms D of the clip are then pressed toward each other, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4E, so that the loop of the lamp may engage with the projections E. The projections E may be modified in form to permit them to engage with any article which is desired to be supported. When the arms D of the clip are pressed toward each other, the projections C are pressed hard against the tube G, and the clip is thereby securely clamped to the tube and is held in position by the article supported by it.
' What I claim is- A clip, comprising a back portion provided with an eye at each end, and a front portion consisting of two arms pivoted in the said eyes and provided with projections for engaging with the article to be supported, and proj ections operating to bear against the support when the first said projections are pressed toward each other, substantially as set forth.
