Description

D12-178. OR D 28u297 EX DESIGN.
E. C. GARDEN.
BICYCLE HANDLE BAR.
No. 28,297. Patented Feb. 15, 1898 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMANUEL O. GARDEN, OF JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE HANDLE-BAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,297, dated February 15, 1898.
Application filed December 20, 1897. Serial No- 662,754. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMANUEL O. GARDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ack sonville, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Bicycle Handle-Bars; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for bicycle handle-bars and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in ahandle-bar formed at each side of a central point with a vertically-disposed nearly complete ring or circular bend, the terminals of the bar being curved away from the ring or bend.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a handle-bar embodying the hereindescribed design. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the bar in a reversed position. Figs. 3 and 4 are plan views; and Fig. 5 is a sectional View taken on the line ac a: of Fig. 4, looking in the direction indicated by the arrow.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a handle-bar having a central clip portion B. At each side of the clip portion B the bar is bent to one side at nearly a right angle, as at O, and is then carried around in a circular line, so as to form an open and almost complete ring D. After coming back nearly to the point C the terminals of the bar turn from the rings D in simple curves E. They are also given a slight lateral bend, as shown at F.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a handle-bar herein described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EMANUEL C. GARDEN.
