JULIAN POMEROY, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A WHIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,817, dated August 30, 1892.
Application filed August 3, 1892. Serial No. 442,077. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIAN POMEROY, a citizen of the United States, residingat Spring field, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced anew and original Design for WVhips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side view of a whip, showing my design. Fig. 2 is an edge View of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section taken at line at at, Fig. 1.
The leading feature of my design consists in a whip the body portion of which, as distinguished from the handle portion, is substantially flat in cr0ss-section.
The letter a designates the body portion of the whip, and b the handle portion thereof. Said body portion is composed of two substantially flat sides 2 2 and two rounded edges 3 3, which unite said sides, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3. The lines of said sides and said edges preferably converge slightly as they approach the outer end of the whip, or that end opposite the handle portion 1), as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The handle portion 1) is shown as being round in cross-section with rounded projections 4 5 at the two ends thereof and as joining the body portion a by two oppositelycurved lines 6 6, and the whip is shown as terminating at its opposite end in a square end 7; but variations in these features can be made without departure from the spirit of my invention, the essential feature of which consists in a whip the body portion of which is substantially flat in cross-section.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a whip, herein shown and described.
