SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,729, dated April 21, 1896. Application filed December 26,1895. semi No. 573,377. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FREDERICK HASSEL- BERGER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Books, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved pocket-book, which is especiallyintended for gentlemens use, and in which, besides the ordinary receptacle for cards, &c., a bill-pocket compartment for bank -notes is provided, from which any one of the bank-notes can be removed without opening the entire pocketbook; and the invention consists of a pocketbook provided with a bank-note formed of a partition at one end, folding side flaps or gussets, said flaps or gussets provided with folding wings, and an end flap at the end of the bill compartment, said outwardly folding wings being provided with a locking device for folding over the end flap, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure :1 represents a perspective view of my improved pocket-book, showing the same in closed position. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views, respectively, showing the pocket-book partly and entirelyin open position; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the pocket-book, showing the so-called bill-book entirely open, so as to show the side gussets and closing end wings of the same.

Referring to the drawings, A representsa pocket-book which is provided with an auxiliarypocket for visiting-cards, and with a socalled bill-book B, that is formed at one end with a partition I) separating it from the cardpocket, folding side gussets O O, which on tend centrally over the bills placed fiat in the pocket-book, a straight end flap D, and outwardly-foldin g wings E E, which are connected by triangular portions 6 c with the side gussets O C, said triangular portions being folded so as to permit the outward folding of the side wings E E in position at right angles to the body of the back, as shown in Fig. 3. The outwardly-folding side wings E E are provided with a locking device P, so that when they are folded inside they can be locked to each other. \Vhen the side wings E are closed over the end flap and triangular portions, the bills cannot be removed from the pocket-book, but when the end wings are spread in outward direction the ends of the bank-notes are visible in the triangular space formed at the end of the bill-book between the triangular.connections of the side wings and end flaps, as shown in Fig. 3, so that when desired a bank-note can be removed from the pocketbook by pulling it slowly out, while exerting a slight pressure with the other hand on the gussets, so as to hold the remaining bank-notes in the bill-book. In this manner any desired bank-note may be removed, as required, for payment, without entirely opening the side gussets of the book and exposing thereby the bank-n otes to view; 711 on bank-notes are in place, the end flap is folded inwardly, and the side wings over the end flap, it being closed by any locking device,as shown in Fig. 2, when the book is closed by folding, as shown in Fig. 1, and the book being then ready for being placed in the pocket.

WVhe-n it is desired to place the bank-notes in position in the bill-book, the side gussets of the book are entirely opened, as shown in Fig. 4, the book being closed again by placing first the side gussets over the bank-notes, next the end flap, and, lastly, the side wings, which are closed as before described.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A pocket-book forbank-notes,consisting of a bank-note compartment or bill-book, provided with a partition at one end, folding side gussets, a folding flap at the opposite end, and folding side wings, connected by triangular portions with the side gussets, said side wings being provided with looking devices so that they can be moved in outward direction from the side gussets, and permit the rem0ving of any one of the bills without opening the bill-book, substantially as set forth.

2. A pocket-book, provided with a banknote compartment, or bill-book, constructed with a partition at one end, a straight foldin flap at the opposite end, folding side gussets and side Wings connected by triangular portions with the ends of the side gussets, the side gussets being made to abut at the center of the book, While the end Wings are made to overlap each other, and are provided with locking devices so as to permit the inserting and removing of any of the bank-notes at the end of the bill-book when the end flap and side Wings are in open position, or to permit the entire closing of the same, substantially 10 as set forth.
