TOBACCO-POUCH AND PURSE.
ILJUS'EiAiZ-E Application filed. September 4, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES JAMES HATI-I- AWAY, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 114 Lichiield street, Walsall, in the county of Stafford, England, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in T obacco-Pouches and Purses, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to receptacles, and particularly to that type of receptacle commonly used as a tobacco pouch or money purse, having for its main obiect the provision of a simple device of this character of a novel construction.
Another object of the invention is to produce a pouch or purse which may have its entire inner area or containing pocket filled to its full extent and which may be closed to tightly seal the contents therein.
With the above objects in View, the invention consists in a certain novel arrangement, construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a tobacco pouch closed. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of Fig. 1 on the dotted lines A. Fig. 3 is a like cross section to Fig. 2 but with the pouch open. Fig. 1 is a front elevation similar to Fig. 1 but with the outer flap thrown back to illustrate the inner flap. Fig. 5 is a front elevation ofa different shape suitable for a purse and in a closed position. Fig. 6 is a similar front elevation as Fig. 5 but with the outer flap thrown back. Figs. 7, 8 and 9 are front elevations of a pouch showing respective positions closed, outer flap thrown back, and outer and inner flaps thrown back. this arrangement having additional folding pieces attached to both flaps to close over the opening in the side of the pouch.
With reference to Figs. 1 to 4- a is the completely closed side of the pouch, a are the completely closed boundary edges, and c is the opening side provided by the flap 0 cut from the middle part of the material of said side to form and fit the opening 0 in the manner shown in the drawings, par
ticularly by Figs. 3 and 1. The end edges 0 0 of the flap 0 which is the inner flap hereinbefore referred to, are permanently connected to the end edges cl cl of the opening 0 by foldable side pieces or gussets c and forming with the flap, 0 when the Specification of Letters Patent.

pouch is open a definite mouth or entrance to the opening 0 The upper and free edge of the flap c is provided with an extension 0 adapted, when said flap is closing the opening 0 to tuck under the upper ed e d of said opening to assist in holding the (7 to the opening side to, when the pouch is closed, lie over and entirely cover the inner flap 0 and the opening 0 as shown 1n Figs. 1 and 2, and to throw back when opening the pouch in the manner shown by Figs. 3 and 4. This external flap carries at its opposite lower corners the snap button members and 5 to engage corre sponding snap button members It on the opening side 0, to fasten the external flap down over the inner fiap and opening. as clearly shown in Figs. 1. and 2. Any nurnber of such snap buttons may be used.
Figs. 5 and 6 show the same construction as Figs. 1 to i but in a different shape and of smaller size, suitable as a purse. The external flap is at g and the internal flap at 0 and the opening in the side 0 at 0 the flap 0 being in this arrangement formed with a pocket :0 for gold coins or tickets.
The arrangement of pouch Figs. 7 to 9 is the same as Figs. 1 to 4, except that the folding pieces 6 e extend across both flaps c and g at the end edges, and fold over each other, and over the opening 0 and also with the two flaps, instead of folding gusset-like. The dotted lines y Fig. 9 indicate how a folding piece opens. in this arrangement the parts g 9* of the snap buttons are carried by the folding pieces and the counterparts 71 h of said buttons by the inner flap.
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A pouch or purse comprising side members secured together, one of said members being formed with an opening, an inner flap adapted to close said opening, foldable pieces connecting said flap with the side edges of the opening, an outer flap adapted to close over and entirely cover the inner flap andthrow back, and means for holding the outer flap in its closed position.
2. A receptacle comprising side members secured together to form a containing chamber therebetween, one of said members being formed with a slit forming a flapped opening therein, the flap of said opening being adapted to close the latter, foldable gussets connecting the side edges of said flap with the edges of said opening, thereby forming a definite mouth-piece to said opening when the pouch is open, an outer fiap carried by said receptacle and adapted to entirely cover said'inner flap, and means for holding the outer flap in its closed position.
3. A receptacle comprising two side mem bers connected together at the boundary edges thereof, one of said side members being completely closed and the other side member being :tormed with an opening, an inner flap out from the material of said lastmentioned side member and adapted to proride said opening in said member, an extension provided on said flap and adapted to tuck under the upper edge of the opening,
gussets connecting the side edges of said flap with the edges of said openiiig, an outer flap adapted to close over and entirely cover the inner flap, and means for holding the outer flap in closed position.
A receptacle comprising two side pieces connected. together all-around at the bonndary edges thereof, one side piece being the completely closed side or": the receptacle, while the other side piece is formed with a central opening, an inner lap carried by the side piece formed with said opening and of a size corresponding to said opening, [lexible and foldable gnssets connecting said flap with the edges of said opening, an outer flap adapted to close over and entirely cover the inner flap, and means for holding the outer flap in its closed position.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
