ROBERT S. CHEVRIER, OF'TRENTON, NEIV JERSEY.
FLAGSTAFF-HOLDER.-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,969, dated April '7, 1896.
I Application filed July 18,1895. erial No. 556,811. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT S. CHEVRIER, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flag Poles or Stafis, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to flag poles or staffs,
and particularly to means for supporting said poles from or in connection with a window; and the object thereof is to provide a simple and effective device of this class which may easily and readily be connected with the bottom frame of a window or the sill thereof, into which the flagpole may be inserted and from which it may be readily removed when desired; and with this and other objects in View the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of partshereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved flagpole-support connected with the sill of a window, a part of the window-frame being shown in section; and Fig. 2, a top plan view of the same with the flagpole connected therewith.
In the accompanying drawings, A designates the sill of a window or the bottom frame thereof, and in the practice of my invention I secure to the upper side thereof a plate B, provided with vertical standards 0, between which is pivoted or otherwise secured the inner end D of a bracket-arm E, which is provided on its lower side with a downwardlydepending brace F and on its upper side with a series of rings or loops G, through which a flagpole I-I may be inserted, and the plate 13 is also provided at each side of the standard 0 with shorter vertical standards K, provided with perforations or holes and adapted to receive hooks L, connected with the lower side of the end D of the bracket-arm E.
It will be observed that the pin or bolt M by which the bracket-arm E is connected with the standard 0 may be removed or inserted at any time, and in connecting the bracketarm with said standard the end thereof is inserted between the standards and passed inwardly until the hooks L enter the holes or perforations in the standards K, after which the pin or bolt M is passed through the standards O and through the inner end D of the bracket-arm, as will be readily understood.
It will also be seen that I accomplish the object of my invention by means of a device simple in construction and operation and one well adapted to produce the result for which it is intended.
Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A support for flagpoles consisting of a bracket-arm, having on its upper side, a series of rings or loops within which a flagpole may be inserted and on its lower side, a depending brace adapted to abut against the sill or frame of a window, said bracket-arm being provided at its inner end with a projection which is connected with standards secured to the window sill or frame, and said projection being also provided at each side of the connection with said standards with hooks which are adapted to be connected with standards, arranged at each side of the standards with which the bracket-arm is connected.
2. In a support for a flagpole, the combination with awindow sill or frame, of a plate connected therewith, provided with vertical standards between which is secured a bracketarm, said bracket-arm being provided on its lower side with a downwardly depending brace, adapted to abut against the side of the window sill or frame, and on its upper side with a series of rings or loops through which a flagpole may be inserted, said plate being also provided on each side of the standards, with which the arm is connected, with standards having perforations or holes therein, adapted to receive hooks connected with the bracket-arm, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 15th day of July, 1895.
ROBERT S. CHEVRIER.
