F. T. ABBOTT.
QUICK SHIFTING AWNING FRAME.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-1,1917.

FRANK T. ABBOTT, OF NEWTON FALLS, NEW YORK.
Q'UIGK-SHIFTING- AWNING-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1918.
Application filed August 1, 1917. Serial No. 183,953.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK T. ABBOTT, a citizen of the United States, residin at Newton Falls, in the county of St. awrence and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Quick-Shifting Awning-Frames, and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in quick-shift awning frames, and the object in view is to produce a simple and eflicient device of this nature so arranged that the awning frame may be easily and quickly removed and without the necessity of detaching the canvas and frame at the top of the window with fixtures, etc.
The invention comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved awning frame.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the frame of a window, and B are screw hooks which are fastened in the upper portion of the window frame and form supporting means for the horizontally supporting portion of the bail-shaped rod C. Socket members D are fastened to the sides of the frame at any suitable locations and each carries a set screw mounted 1n a threaded aperture in the wall thereof. The ends of the rods are adapted to be seated in said sockets and held therein by means of a set screw, thus securely anchoring the horizontally disposed portion of the frame in the supporting hooks.
A second bail-shaped rod, designated by letter E, has collars F at the ends thereof, mounted to have vertical play upon the vertical portions of the stationary bailshaped rod. The awning is secured to said bail-shaped member in any suitable manner and pulleys H upon the bail-shaped rod intermediate the hooks form means over which ropes T pass for raising and lowering the awning, the arrangement of the ropes and pulleys being similar to those commonly employed upon awnings.
By the provision of an awning frame and apparatus embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that the same may be easily and quickly detached when desired without the necessity of the operator detaching fixtures, disconnecting canvas, etc., as is usually required upon awnings, it simply being necessary to loosen the set screws and raise the awning frame so as to release the same from the hooks upon the frame.
What I claim to be new is An awning frame, comprising a bail shaped member, hooks for attachment to the frame of a window opening in which said bail-shaped member is loosely held, the ends of said member having apertured screws therethrough and adapted to engage the frame of the window, collars adjustably mounted upon the member, and a second bail-shaped member pivoted to said collars.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two wltnesses.
