Description
(No Moniek) R. P. CORY.' GHOKE ATTACHMENT FOR GUNS.
N0. 555,432r Patented FabA 25, 1896.
ilNirnn Sterns RANDOLPH l. (ORY, Ol" 5T. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO J'LYLHS BARON, OF SAME PLACE.
CHOK' ATTACHMENT FOR GUNS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 555,432, dated February 25, 1896.
Y Application filed April 10, 1895iJ Serial Nox 545,197. (No model.)
1'0 cufbwfwm it may concer/L.-
Be it known that I, RANDOLPH l. CORY, rcisiding at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Guns, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in guns, and seeks to provide a separate attachable choke, which may preferably be removable, so it may be used or not at pleasure, as may bedesired; andthe invention consists in certain novel construction, combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be described, and pointed .out in the claims. v
In the' drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a part of a gun provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 part in section. Fig. 3 is a cross vertical view. lfigs. et, 5, and G are detail views illustrating a somewhat dierent construction; and Fig. *7 a detail section illustrating the choke.
While my improvement may be applied to and used upon single-barreled guns, itis espe.- cially desirable upon double-barreled guns, because of its ease of application to the latter and because in double-barreled guns a better seat is aiforded between the barrels for cngagement by the fastening devices. In the construction shown the choke -comprises short barrel-lengths which are provided at their rear ends with socket-like portions fitting over the front ends of the gun-barrel, and these `lengths have their bores properly formed to 3S secure the desiredchoke. ln securing the rear end sockets it is preferred to provide upon the extensible choke-sections separate bands, which overlap therear end ,of .the length A and thereby serve to brace and vstrengthen the attachable choke at its junction with the gun-barrel, and these separate bands also strengthen the connection with the Aattachablc choke of the 'devices for securing the same to the gun-barrel.
As shown, these fastening devices comprise a yoke C having side arms C pivoted at their forward ends C2 to the attachable choke and preferably to the.appliedband B, as shown. Q
The pivot at C2, as shown, is accomplished by-fitting eyes on the endsof the yoke-arms C over studs on the choke-sections, so the is a sideview thereof,-
said yoke-arms iiiay be sprung onor oft the studs to permit the use of the sarneyoke with different choke-sections, so several such sections may be carried in the-pocket and the same yoke used with any one of them.
The latch D is journaledat D to the rear end of the arms C and has a handle portionl)2 and a point D3, the latter engaging with a seat E ixed to the gun-barrel. The point D3, fas shown most clearly in Fig. 2, has a spring por-4 tion or connection to bear against the catch E.
- Between their ends the arms C' of the yoke are deflected-affording sufficient spring to maintain the latchin cngagement'with its seat.
Thile the seat E may be brazed or other- Wise permanently securedto the gun-barrels at a point intermediate the barrels, it maybe preferred in some instances to secure the same adjustably, as shown in Figs. Ai to 6, in which the catch is secured to the gun-barrel bctiveen the same or on the intermediate rib by screws, one of the screws engaging with a Washerpiece F, having projections f'cntering grooves f in the catch or seat block so the Washer cannot turn. In this construction of catch or seat it may be adjusted back and forth on the'barrel, as maybe desirable or necessary.
Having thus described my invent-ion, what 3. 'The combination with a gun' having a catch or seat of an attachablc choke-section having at its rear end a socket to fit over thc end of the gun-ba rrel, a latch carried by such Section and havingv a portion fulcrumingagainst but disconnected from the catch or seat of the gun-barrel whereby the choke may 'I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patbe readily secured to or entirely detached from the ,gun-barrel, the choke-section being otherwise disconnected from the gun-barrel substantially as set forth. Y'
Jl. An attachable choke lfor guns consisting "of a barrel-section having at its rear end a socket.to t upon the muzzle of the gun and a latch carried by the choke-section by which to bind the latter longitudinally upon the gun-barrel, the choke-section being otherwise disconnected from the gun-'barrel substantially as set forth. I
5. Thegun having a, catch or seat combined with the choke Pfitted thereto, the yoke pivoted to said choke, and the latch pivoted to the yoke `and having a spring point or por tion engaging such catch or seat substantially as set forth.
6. The combination substantially es described, of the gun, the catch or seat secured adjustably thereto, the choke fitted to the t gun-barrel and the latch connected with the 8. lhe combination with the gun-barrels,
and the seat or catch secured adjustably thereto, of the attachable choke iitted at its reati1 end to the gun-barrel and a latch carried by scid choke and engaging the adjustable seat of the gun-barrel, substantially is described.
