SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 554,051, dated February 4, 1896. i

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD S. BUTLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Rochelle, county of Vvestchester, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe and Chimney Supports for Gas and other Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to supports for the globes or chimneys of gas or other burners, and the object thereof is to provide an effective globe or chimney holder which is simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive, While being perfectly adapted to securely hold a globe or chimney in position.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, and in which- Figure 1 shows an ordinary globe secured to the usual gallery or globe-support of a gasburner by means of my improvement; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 represents the details' of the construction.

Referring to the construction shown in the drawings, it will be seen that the gallery or globe-support A is of the form usually employed in connection with gas-burners for supporting the globes used in connection therewith, and is provided with the usual head B, through which the burner-tip passes, and the annular support C, having the upwardly-directed flange or rim D, the head B and an nular support 0 being connected by arms E in the usual manner.

The flange D is provided with the usual spring clasps or clamps F,or these clamps may consist of screw-bolts or lugs or shoulders adapted to extend inwardly and over the flange at the bottom of the globe or chimney G.

Pivotally connected with one side of the flange or rim D by means of a shoulder or projection (Z, formed on or secured thereto,

consisting of a plate of any desired form, provided at one end with a shoulder or projection by means of which it is connected with the shoulder or project-ion of the flange or rim D, and on the adjacent corner of the same end with a frictional roller L, which is formed of any desired material and adapted to bear against the base of the globe or chimney, or the upper inclined surface of the flange or rim at the bottom thereof, and hold the globe or chimney in place.

The opposite or free end of the lock K is provided with a downwardly-directed and outwardly-curved wing or projection M, adapted to be grasped by the thumb and finger in the operation thereof, and also to limit the inward movement of the pivoted lock or fastener by striking against the flange or rim D.

In operation the globe or chimney G is placed on the gallery or support 0, the flange or rim at the bottom thereof fitting within the rim or flange D of the support and under the spring or other devices F, and the lock or holder K is then turned into the position shown in Fig. 2, in which the roller L will press upon the upper surface of the flange or rim at the bottom of the globe or chimney, or against the base or neck of the same above said flange or rim, as may be desired, or in accordance with the formation of the globe or chimney, and the latter will be securely held in place thereby.

It is evident that more than one of my improved looks or fasteners may be employed if desired, and that changes therein and modifications thereof may be made without departing from the scope of my invention, and I therefore reserve the right to make such alterations in the construction shown and described as fairly come within the scope of my invention.
