Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVEMENT IN VAGINAl. SYRINGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,355, dated June 5, 1866.
To all whom t may concern:
Be itknown that I, SETH E. PARSONS, of the city and county of Albany, State ot' New York, have invented a new and Improved Vaginal Syringe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a i'ull and exact description thereof, reference' being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing a vaginal syringe in such a manner that there will be no dilculty inpassing it through the vagina to the mouth ot' the Woyinb, and whilein that position can beturned around, presenting the perforated bulb A to any part of the mouth of the womb and at any desired angle, and also presenting no impediment to a free passage through the vagina while in use. Also, by the peculiar curve to the bulb A and the holes therein, the party using it is insured perl'ect contact with every part of the vagina and womb when the proper pressure is applied to the bulb U. Also, by the combination and connection ot' the rubber bulb C and perforated silver bulb A by the tube B, when the instrument is used for injecting solutions containing nitrate of silver, Zinc, sugar ot' lead, &c. by removing the pressure While the instrument is in the same position that it was in when the press- O will cause the solution to re-enter the bulbA, and through the tube to the fountain C, when the instrument can be removed, preven ting the solution or obviating the necessity of the solution mentioned from passing through the. vagina and excoriatin'g the same.
I do not limit the size otl these different parts, as they may have to be altered according to circumstances. For instance, the capacity of the' rubber bulb may be twice as large for the application of a wash for the ,fluor albu's orV whites as it would for ulceration or cancer in the womb.
I do not claim the use of a perforated bulb on a vaginal syringe, nor the exclusive use of a rubber bulb for .the purpose of making injections 5 but I claim- The peculiar shape ot' the perforated bulb A and the long stem on the tube B, in connection and combination with the rubber bulb C, in the manner and for the purpose as herein set forth.
