ilge .tlgehnle mitten tu iu tigris tetters atmt mit making put u1' tige rami.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, ALVAH RITTENHOUSE, M. D., ofthe city and county of Philadelphia, and State ofPennsyl- Vania., have invented a new and improved Female-Syringe Bed-Pan; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vaginal metallic tube. Letter'A, the end to be connected with a. rubber tube.
Figure 2, a rubber tube, by 'which gie vagiuaLt'ube may be lengthened or shortened at pleasure, to suit the patient, by sliding it out and in the said rubber tube. Letter B, the end of the rubber tube, which is connected to tig. 3 at letter C.
Figure 3, a'metallic tube. Letter C, the end to be inserted into the rubber tube, at which there is an outletvalve; letter D, the top to be inserted into the rubber bulb; letter E is an inlet-valve.
Figure 4 is a short-angle suction-tube, with inlet-valve at letter F. Itis to be placed inside of the capsular vulva at letter K, iig. 6. l i
Figure 5, a rubber bulb, to be placed on top of tube, lig. 3, at letter D.
Figure 6, a bed-pan or vessel to hold any medicated preparation. Letter H, an articial capsular vulva; letter J, the body of the vessel, round in shape, similar to a fruit-can, to hold a quart, .more or less; letter I, an opening for a cork, by which the vessel is filled inside of the capsular vulva; letter K, the suction-.tube with valve.
Figure 7, the several parts combined', making acomplete female-syringe bed-pan," to be used for inject ing into the vagina and uterus any medicatedpreparation in severe cases onf ilooding, or uterine hemorrhages, without moving the patient, therein havingia great advantage and merit over all other appliances.
The uid is 'rst put in the vessel, the vaginal tube. fig. 1, into the vagina, and gently pressed till the capsular vulva Acomes in contact with the vulva. As the Huid is then throwninto the vagina or uterus, as the case may be, it passes out, and is sucked up by suction-tube, letter K, tig. 7, thereby avoiding-any leakage.. It can also be used in any position, sitting, standing, or lying, with perfect ease, without any leakage, by4 the patient or nurse.
Letter L is a perforated strainer, by which allthe fluid is perfectly cleared of all sediment before entering the syringe-tube, thereby keeping the vulves in perfect working order.
What'I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The bed-pan cr vessel J, capsular vulva H, right-angle suction-tube K, substantially as set forth.
2. The vaginal extension-tube N O, metallic valve-tube P, right-angle suction-tube K, rubber bulb R, vessel J, capsular vulva I-I, strainer L, all combined and arranged substantially in the manner and furthe purpose as herein set forth and described.
