J.G.GRAY,. GRAVE VAULT.
Patented Dec. 3, 1895.
lml/Ill,
NITED TATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOHN G. GRAY, OF CONNERSVILLE, INDIANA.
G RAVE-VAU LT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 550,610, dated December 3, 1895..
Application filed December 11, 1891. $erial No. 414,756. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN GIBSON GRAY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Oonnersville, in the county of Fayette and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grave Vaults; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention consists of certain improvements on a patent granted to me July 5, 1892, No. 478,102, the devices of said patent of the above-written date and number being an e1evated platform resting on supports, combined with an air-tight cap or cover extending down over the said platform and over the said supports and resting on projection of the bottom parts of the said supports, the bottom part of the said air-tight cap or cover projecting out horizontally and held firmly to the said supports by metal clamps.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved vault. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved platform; and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-sectional view of my improved vault, showing the internal arrangement when the difierent parts or devices have assumed their respective functions and the vault is closed.
The devices of this application are the bottom B, fastened to the supports E, the lugs or keepers F, fastened to the supports E, and the spring-catches I-I, fastened to the base interior of the cap or cover A. The bottom B of the platform protects the open space below the top part of the platform'from becoming filled up with earth or other substance, other than air or water, and the engagement of the spring-catches II against the lugs or keepers F locks the vault, and a burglarproof receptacle is the result. Iron or steel plate one-eighth of an inch in thickness or of any other desired thickness may be used in the construction of this vault, the ends of the cap or cover flanged and well riveted to top and sides, said cap or cover so made as to fit reasonably close over the platform.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The cap or cover A provided with the spring catches H, in combination with the bottom B, provided with the elevated supports E, said supports provided with keepers F, to be engaged by the spring-catches H of the cap or cover A, all as herein substantially shown, set forth and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
JOHN G. GRAY.
