To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS BEVAN, of Essex, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Print-Mounter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to photography; and its object is to provide a new and improved print-mounter which is comparatively simple and durable in construction, easily ma nipulated, and arranged to accurately place and roll the print on the cardboard.
The invention consists, principally, of two plates hinged together, one of which is adapted to receive the cardboard and the other the print, and a roller carried by one plate and adapted to roll over the other plate upon raising or lowering the top plate.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in allthe figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the printmounter as closed. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same in an open position. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same in a closed position, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse section of part of the roller and its bearing.
The improved print-mounter isprovided with a base or bottom plate A, formed in its top surface with a recess A to receive a board B, fastened in place to the plate A by set-screws O, screwing into the board through the under side of the plate A, as is plainly shown in Fig. 3.
The board B is covered on the top by a facing of smooth rubber D or other suitable material, the said board and its facing being of a size corresponding to the print to be mounted on the cardboard. A number of such boards B are used in connection with each mounter to accommodate different-sized prints, it being understood that the board can be readily attached to or detached from the plate A by set-screws G.
On one end of the plate A are arranged hinges I, connected with a top plate F,
adapted to fold upon the bottom plate A, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3, the said plate F being formed on its under side with a recess F, adapted to receive the cardboard or other mounting, on which the print placed on the facing D is to be mounted. A roller G is adapted to hold the cardboard in place on the plate F as the latter is raised, and this roller G is journaled at its ends in links H, pivoted 6 at H to the sides of the bottom plate A. Springs I are connected with the ends of the roller G, the said springs being also attached to clips J, each carrying a grooved pulley J, traveling on a longitudinally extending 6 guide-rod K, attached to the side of the plate F.
.By the arrangement described the plate F when swung into an open or aclosed position causes by its guide-rod K and pulley J a 7 swinging of the links 11, so that the roller G is moved over the face of the cardboard held in the recess F of the plate F. When the latter is in a closed position, as shown in Figs.
1 and 3, the roller G rests in atransverse re- 7 cess A formed in the front end of the bottom plate A.
The operation is as follows: The print is placed with its face downward on the facing of the board B, so that its pasted or gummed back is uppermost, and the cardboard or other mounting is placed in the recess F of the plate F, and then the latter is closed, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. In closing the plate F the roller G moves into afront position, so that the cardboard passes upon the pasted back of the print, whereby the latter is picked up by the cardboard, and when the operator now opens the plate F by swinging the same upward the cardboard carries the print along and at the same time the roller G rolls over the print to press the same firmly in contact with its pasted side upon the face of the cardboard. By this arrangement all wrinkles are smoothed and the print is accurately mounted upon the cardboard. By having a yielding connection between the roller G and its guide-rod K the roller is pressed with sufficient force in contact with the print to properly roll the same. Furthermore, this connection permits the use of thin and thick cardboard on the same device.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to securebyLet-ters Patent- 1. A print mounter, comprising two plates hinged together, one of which is adapted to receive the cardboard and the other the print, and a roller adapted to roll over the plate containing the cardboard, substantially as shown and described.
2. A print mounter, comprising two plates hinged together, one of which is adapted to receive the card board or other mounting, a board or block secured on the other plate and adapted to receive and support the print, and a roller adapted to roll over the plate contain in gthe cardboard substantially as shown and described.
3. A print mounter, comprising a bottom plate, a boa-rd having a rubber facing, removably connected with the top face of the said plate, a second plate hinged to one end of the said bottom plate, and adapted to receive the cardboard or other mounting, and a roller adapted to roll over the plate containing the cardboard substantially as shown and described.

A print mounter, comprising a bottom plate, a board having a rubber facing, removably connected with the top face of the said plate, a second plate hinged to one end of the said bottom plate, and adapted to receive the cardboard or other mounting, a roller adapted to roll over the inner face of the said second plate, links carrying the said roller and pivoted on the said bottom plate, and a guide rod held on the said second plate and connected with the said roller, substantially as shown and described.
5. A print mounter, comprising a bottom plate, a board having a rubber facing, rcmovably connected with the top face of the said plate, a second plate hinged to one end of the said bottom plate, and adapted to receive the cardboard or other mounting, a roller adapted to roll over the inner face of the said second plate, a guide rodheld on the said second plate and connected with the said roller, and a yielding connection between the said guide rod and roller, as set forth.
