COMBINED NAME-PLATE AND HAT-HOOK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 1 \To.' 549,191, dated November 5, 1895.

Be it known that 1, AUGUST H. FURSTNOW, a citizen of the United States, anda resident of Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Name-Plate and Hat-Hook; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to a combined nameplate and hat-hook; and it consists in certain pecularities of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully set forth hereinafter, and subsequently claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a view of a portion of a hat with my device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an inside View of a portion of the sweat-leather of, a hat, showing the attaching portions of my device. Fig. 3 is a perspective rear View of my device detached, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a hat with my device in place therein and in position to be used as a hook.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a hat, and B the sweat-leather thereof.

0 represents the name-plate, forming a part of my device, on which the name of the owner is designed to be engraved. On the back of this plate 0 are two transverse sleeves a a for the reception of the arms I) b, which are movable therein, and which, with the suspensionbar 0, are formed of a single strip of wire, the free ends of said arms being upset, as shown at d cl, to prevent detachment after said arms have been inserted through the sleeves a a.

D is a sharp-pointed prong, rigidly attached to the rear of the plate 0, adjacent to one end thereof, and projecting beyond said end.

E is another prong, pivotally secured, as shown at e, to a lug f on-the rear of said plate 0, adjacent to the other end thereof, and F is a third prong, coinciding in form to the prong E and pivotally secured thereto, as shown at g.

The operation of my device will be readily understood from the foregoing descriptionof its construction, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. In adjusting the device to the sweat-leather of a hat the latter is raised and the rigid prong D first inserted through the same, and then the prongs E F are turned to a right angle to said sweat-band and pushed through it, and then spread out, as indicated in-Fig. 2. When the hat is to be worn, the hook part I) Z) c is pushed inward toward the crown of the hat until the bar 0 is close to the plate 0, as shown in Fig. 1, and when the hat is to be hung up the bar 0 is pulled out until the upset ends d d of the arms I) b are against the adjacent ends of the sleeves a a, with the bar 0 beyond the brim of the hat, as shown in Fig. 4. Thus it will be seen that I have devised a very neat and attractive device and combined with the nameplate a most convenient means for suspending the hat when not in use.

By means of my device a hat can be suspended from a tack or even a heavy pin, and thus (as nearly every man carries pins in his pocket or about his clothing) a hat provided with my device may be quickly, safely, and conveniently suspended in places where there are no regular hat-racks or hooks.
