Description
1. c. BmDGMAN.
I Churn.
No. 54,846. Patented May 22, 1866.
UNITED STATES IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 54,846, dated May 22, 1866.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN C. BRIDGMAN, of London, in the county of Madison and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Iniprovement in Ghurns; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, made part of this specication, in which- Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the cover and dasher-handie. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section ofthe dasher-l1andle.
In the different figures the same letters refer to identical parts.
A represents the body of the ordinary churn, of which B is the cover. D is the handle of the d asher, which has a double or triple thread, D', ruiming' its entire length, formed of wires coiled around the handle or in any other mode.
E is a wooden collar resting upon a washer, Gr, and turning freely upon the handle. It is retained by the liange E on the end of the handle D.
C is the dasher, which is formed of the crosspieees C on the bottom and the vertical beaters, (marked C2.)
A pin, H,is inserted through the part B of the cover, the point being inserted between the threads of the screw D. Any equivalent arrangement of the threads of a male and female screw will answer the saine purpose. I have described this mode as the cheapest.
The collar E being seized by the hand as the dasher is drawn up, it has both a vertical and revolving motion, which is reversed ill descending, the paddles C and O2 violently agitatin g the cream as the dasher passes through it.
What I claim as my invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the cover B and pin H with the handle D, having spiral thread D, the loose collar E, and dasher C, the parts being severally constructed and arranged for use substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speeieation in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
J. C. BRIDGMAN.
