UNITE TENT DFFIGE.
- BETHUNE PERRY, OF ALBION, CALIFORNIA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,166, dated October 16, 1877 application filed August 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BETHUNE PERRY, of Albion, in the county of Mendocino and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawing-Pens, of which the I sponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved drawingpen which shall be simple in construction and convenient and relia ble in use, and which will make a broken line instead of a dotted one.
The invention consists in an improved drawing-pen formed by the combination with each other of the stem, the spindle, the sleeve, the concaved and notched disks, the spring, and the nuts, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the stem or handle of the pen, which is made of a convenient length and size, and upon the side of the lower end of which is formed, or to it is attached, a spindle, B. Upon disks 1) E are concaved, are placed with their concave sides toward each other, and have radial notches formed in their edges. The
' sleeve 0 and its disks, nut, and spring D E F' Gr are kept in place upon the spindle B by a nut, H, screwed upon a screw-thread out upon the outer end of the said spindle B. The disks D E may be supplied with ink by separating them and putting the ink into the cavity between them; or the disks may be supplied with ink with a brush without taking them apart.
With this construction, by tightening the nut H, so as to prevent the sleeve 0 and its attachments from revolving, the pen will make a continuous line, and by loosening the said nut H, so as to allow the sleeve 0 and its attachments to revolve, the pen will make a broken line. The stem or handle A should be made with a bend or ofiset inits lower part, so as to bring the body of said handle directly over the edges of the disks D E.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat. ent
An improved drawing-pen, consisting of the stem A, the spindle B, the sleeve 0, the 0011- caved and notched disks D E, the spring G, and
the nuts F H, substantially as herein shown and described.
