B. WINGHEL.
' ADJUSTABLE MEASUREB.
No. 548,023. Patented Oct. '15, 1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUDOLPH WINCHEL, OF WEBB CITY, MISSOURI.
ADJ USTAB LE -M EASU RER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,023, dated October 15, 1895. Application filed June 14, 1895- Serial No. 552,765. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,-
Be it known that I, RUDOLPH WINCHEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of IVebb City, in the county of Jasper and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Measurers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to means for measuring vegetables and other articles, and its object is to provide an improved device of this character which can be adjusted so as to vary its capacity to measure different quantities.
- The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a measure constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a bottom view.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates the base of the measure, which is oval-shaped, as seen in Fig. 3, and formed with an elongated slot 2.
The numeral 3 designates a sheetmetal plate, which is curved or bent into approximately semicircular form and has its lower edge secured to the said base, Resting on the said base is a correspondingly formed but smaller plate 4, to which is secured a curved metal plate 5, which is adapted to work back and forth within plate 3 to vary the capacity of the measure. Passing through the slot 2 in the base is a headed screw-bolt 5', which also passes through an aperture in plate 4, and is secured thereto by a set-screw 6 and washer 7.
The manner of adjusting the device is as follows: The set-screw is loosened and the plate 4 adjusted according to the quantity to be measured, after which the screw is tightened, so as to hold the two parts in place. When platet is pushed in as far as it will go, the device will measure, say, one-half peck, when pushed part way out it will measure two-thirds of a peck, and when pulled out to its fullest extent will measure one peck.
Of course the measure can be made in varying sizes or capacities.
Having thus fully described my invention,-
what I claim is- In an adjustable measu rer, the combination with the base formed with an elongated slot, and the curved metal plate having its lower edge secured to said base, of the apertured plate resting upon said base, the curved metal plate secured thereto, the headed screw-bolt passing through said base and plate, and the set screw; substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RUDOLPH WINOHEL.
Witnesses:
