Be it known that I, SCOTT H. TOLMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lynn, in the county of Essex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Dress-Hook, of which the following, with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in devices of the above class; and it consists of a spreader carrying at each end a downwardly and laterally bent hook, a laterally-projecting arm at each end of the spreader carrying a similarly-bent hook, a suspendingloop adapted to be hung upon a hook or other support, and a downwardly and laterally bent wall-brace adapted to hold the spreader and hooks away from the wall when suspended upon the same by the suspending-loop.

My invention further consists of the construction of said device as hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.

The object of my invention is to furnish a cheap and simple device which may be attached to the ordinary closet-hook against the wall of a closet, and which will when so attached hold a dress hung thereon out of contact with the wall and in such position that it will dry rapidly if damp, and will not wrinkle or lose its shape.

The accompanying drawings illustrate a preferred form of my invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of same, and Fig. 2 a section on line X X, Fig. 1.

Similar letters and figures of reference refer to similar parts throughout both views.

In the drawings, A represents the spreader, and 0 0a pair of downwardly and laterally bent hooks depending therefrom and suitably secured thereto at each end.

B B represent a pair of laterally-projecting arms suitably secured at each end of the spreaderA and arranged to be held in a substantially-horizontal position when the device is suspended against the wall. At the end of each of the arms B B is formed a downwardl y and laterally bent hook D. The function of the arms B B is to separate the hooks O G and D D, so that when a dress is hung upon the hooks G C and'a basque on the hooks D D, as hereinafter described, the garments will not press against each other and so become wrinkled and out of shape.

The suspending-loop is shown at F and is conveniently secured to the center of the spreader A.

E represents the wall-brace, which may conveniently consist of a downwardly and laterally bent loop secured to the spreader A. The arrangement of the Wall-brace E with reference to the loop F and arms B B is such that when the device is suspended against a wall by the loop F the brace E bears against the wall and holds the arms B B in a substantially horizontal position.

My invention may be conveniently constructed of two wires 2 and 3, the wire 2 being bent and twisted upon itself to form the suspendingdoop F and the wire 3 bent to form the brace E, and the wires 2 and 3 then twisted together to form the spreader A. At the ends of the spreader A the wire 3 is bent downwardly and laterally to form the books 0 C, and the wire 2 is bent laterally to form the arms B B, and then downwardly and laterally to form the hooks D D. The whole device is thus simply and strongly constructed of two continuous pieces of wire.

In using my device the loop F is placed upon a hook or other convenient support on the wall and the brace E allowed to rest upon the same. The spreader A and its hooks will be then in the proper position and held away from the wall. A dress may then behung upon the hooks O O by means of the loops commonly found one on each side of the dress and a waist or basque on the hooks D D by means of the loops commonly placed inside the sleeves adjacent to the body. When so hung it is evident that the garments will neither be pressed closely against the wall or against each other, but air may-circulate freely between them, so that they will dry rapidly if damp and not be crushed out of shape or wrinkled.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as novel, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as a new article of manufacture- 1. A dress hook consisting of a spreader carrying at each end a downwardly and laterally bent hook, a forwardly projecting arm at each end of the spreader carrying a similarly bent hook, a suspending loop and downwardly and laterally bent wall brace projecting from the center of the spreader, all substantially as described.

2. A dress hook consisting of a spreader carrying at each end a downwardly and laterally bent book, a forwardly projecting arm at each end of the spreader above the plane of, extending beyond the hook, and carrying a similarly bent hook, and a suspending loop for supporting the spreader-all substantially as described. c,

3. A dress hook consisting of a spreader carrying at each end a downwardly and laterally bent hook, a forwardly projecting arm at each end of the spreader carrying a similarly bent hook, a suspending loop, and a wall brace, substantially as described.

4. In a dress hook, the combination with a rigid spreaderand connected suspending loop, of a downwardly and laterally bent wall brace,

a depending supporting hook at each end of the spreader, a rigid arm laterally projected from each end of the spreader and a depending supporting hook at the outer end of the laterally projected arm, substantially as described.

5. In a dress hook, the combination with a rigid spreader and connected suspendingloop, of a downwardly and laterally bent wall brace, a rigid arm projected from each end of the spreader, depending arms rigidly secured at each end of the spreader and at or near the outer ends of the lateral arms, and supporting hooks upon said depending arms, substantially as described.
