7 L. MOND., GRATE FOR CIRCULAR GAS PRODUCERS. No. 546,050. Patented Sept. 10, 1895.

GRATE FOR CIRCULAR GAS-PRODUCERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,050, dated September 10, 1895. Application filed April 27, 1895. Serial No. 647,392. (No model.) Patented in Englan June Z2, 9
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUDWIG MOND, a sub ject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at London, in the Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grates for Circular Gas-Producers, (for which I have received Letters Patent in England, dated June 22, 1893, No. 12,440,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object a grate for a circular gas-producer-such, forinstance, as that set forth in my specification, Serial No. 521,110.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a section, of a grate made on the principle of my invention and shown as applied to the aforesaid gas-producer.
In the drawings, a is the conical bottom of the gas-prod ucer; n, metallic ring forming continuation thereof and hooked at its lower extremity with a hook-flange terminating in a projecting ridge o; '11, fire-bars having a hook at their upper end hooking and hanging on the ridge '0 and formed broader at the upper endnamely, that farthest from the axis of the grate-than at the lower end, the difference in thickness being so arranged that the spaces between the bars should be approximately parallel through the entire distance; 0, a ring supported on bracket p and supporting in its turn the lower ends of the bars. It will be seen that these bars, being simply hung on a ring-flange, can be at once withdrawn; also, being hung in this manner, they can be pushed inward radially easily on the ringflange.
I claim as my invention 1. In a circular gas producer the combination with a combustion chamber of a grate in the form of an inverted truncated cone formed of loose wedge shaped bars resting on rings, said bars being formed thicker at their outer end than at their inner and lower ends whereby the air spaces between them are approximately even all around, and the air is consequently nearly evenly distributed over the area of the combustion chamber and the bars can be readily moved about substantially as described.
2. The combination of a truncated cone of fire bars, each of them hooked at the top with acircular ridge 1: interlocking with said hook and a circular bearer o carrying the lower ends of the bars, whereby the bars can be oscillated on the ridge 2) and can be easily withdrawn without disturbing the fire.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' LUDIVIG MOND.
