\ Our invention relates to rotary grates for gas producers of the kind having a conical blast distributer formed in several steps or layers with apertures 'for the distribution of the blast, a revolving water-sealed ash pan supported on wheels orrollers, ablast pipe .in the center of the said ash pan and means I for keeping the fuel in a state of continual irregular movement and in a loose condition.
According to the invention the improved rotary grate consists of two or more superimposed flat sections of suitable materialprovided with openings'.for the admission of the blast to the fuel and protecting lips] which. prevent the fuel from entering the interior of the sections. The said sections are preferably circular or polygonal in cross section and they gradually increase in diameter from the top downward to the bottom of the producer, advantageously in such a manner that they inolose a cone the shape of which closel approaches that of the top of the fuel be thereby preventing the blast short circuiizng during its paage through the same, as this generally takes-place in other producers provided with a conical blast distributer and a'fuel-bed the top of which closely approaches the horizontal.
The grate comprising a plurality of sections is preferably supported upon a blast distributionbox, which is in turn supported by a revolving ash pan, and may form an integral part of the latter. I prefer to arrange the separate grate sections eccentrically with respect to each other and to the center line of the producer, as indicated in Fig. .2 of the accompanying drawings.
With this construction it will be understood that asthe grate revolves, a lateral displacement of the fuel between or opposite i each pair of grate sections is effected whereby any consolidation of clinkers is effectually prevented, and the fuel in proximity t o the sections is maintained in a' loose condition,

thereby greatly facilitating the passage of the blast. The blast distribution box into which the blast pipe enters through a stuffing-box is prefe'rablyprovided with external helically arranged ribs in order to facilitate the down-' ward movement of the ashes and is preferably mounted on a supporting ring of such with water or water cooled ashes near the bottom of the pan.
Toenable the invention to be fully understood we will describe it by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is-a'sectional elevation of the the improved form of-grate and Fig. 2 is a plan thereof.-
As shown in the accompanying drawing, the rotary grate comprises a plurality of superimposed sections of different diame- Each section comprises substantially annular upper and lower horizontal plate members indicated at a, a respectively, which are connected by a vertically disposed web having blast openings indicated at b, formed therein. The upper plate member of each section extends outwardly beyond said intermediate member of the section, and is provided with a downwardly extending lip c as shown. The sections are placed one upon the other so as to form a hollow structure to receive and distribute the air blast and the topmost member is provided with a closed central-portion, indicated: at a, so that the air blast is forced openings 6, and beneath the downwardly extending lips c. (l is the blast distribution box carried by the ring e which is rigidly and centrally mounted in the ash-pan f and is revolved with the latter through the medium of thetoothed gear 9. It indicates the helical ribs which are provided on the .to escape into the fuel through the blast revolves, a lateral displacement is set up in the fuel,which prevents the consolidation of clinkers and at the same time maintains the fuel adjacent to the sections of the grate in a loose condition, thereby assisting the passage of the blast through the 'fuel.
Claims:
1. A rotary grate for gas producers, comprising a rotary supporting member, and a plurality of superimposed sections of different diameters carried thereby, each section comprising substantially annular upper and lower horizontal plate members, connected by a; vertically disposed intermediate member provided with blast outlets, the upper plate mcmber of each section extending outwardly beyond said intermediate -member, and being provided with a downwardly extending lip, the upper plate member of the topmost section having a closed central portion forming the top of the grate, and means for supplying air to the interior of said sections.

A rotary grate for gas producers, comprising a rotary supporting member, and a plurality of superimposed sections of different diameters carried thereby, each section comprising substantially annular upper and lower horizontal plate members, connected by a vertically disposed intermediate member provided with blast outlets, the
