SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,317, dated July 23, 1895.

To all whom it nuty concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M. RUSH, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Joseph, in the State of Missouri,have invented a new and useful Watchcase, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in watchcases, in which, by means of springs, ribs, lips, recesses, and the expansion of the sheets composing the lids of watchcases, provision is made for a receptacle or case in which to keep and carry postage-stamps.

The object of my invention is to provide for the safe and convenient carriage of postage-stamps within a watchcase and in the smallest space. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of the inside of the outer or the outside of an inner lid of a watchcase to which a spring B is attached to hold the stamp A in place against the case. Fig. 3 is a sectional View of Fig. 1, at dotted line a a, showing the case recessed in order to afford the greater stamp-space A and spring B. From the foregoing it will be perceived that my invention may be carried out in various ways in practice, and while I make no broad claim to the clasps, springs, the, for holding tickets, labels, 850., still I am not aware that a watchcase has ever heretofore been provided with such aholder as is here described; and its advantages are that it enables any one to carry postage-stamps in the pocket without having a separate special receptacle for the same, and without risk of having them stuck together and destroyed by moisture in apocket-book, the cases of the watch affording a convenient and safe receptacle for them without encumbering the pockets with aseparate receptacle, and the impervious nature of the metal lids of the case preventing access of moisture from perspiration and keepingthem always dry and free from soil, without in any way afiecting the usefulness and sightly appearance of the watch.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As a new article of manufacture, a watch case l1aving,'inside of the same and attached to one of its lids or disks, a holder for stamps, consisting of athin piece of material overlapping and retaining the stamps against lateral displacement substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. A watch case provided with a stamp holder in one of its lids or disks, and a corresponding recess or depression in the adjacent IOC lid or disk to accommodate the stamp holder, substantially as shown and described.

3. Asa new article of manufacture, a Watch case having, inside of the same and attached to one of its lids or disks, a holder for stamps, consisting of a thin piece of material fixed t0 the lid or disk in central position and overlapping and retaining the stamps against lateral displacement substantially as shown and described.

4:. As a new article of manufacture, a watch case having, inside of the same and attached to one of its lids or disks, a holder for stamps, consisting of a thin piece of elastic or springing material fixed to the lid or disk in central position and overlapping and retaining the stamps against lateral displacement substantially as shown and described.

5. As a new article of man ufacture, a Watch case having, inside of the same and attached to one of its lids or disks, a holder for stamps, consisting of a thin piece of elastic or springing material fixed to the lid or disk in central position and overlapping and retaining the stamps, and side flanges on each side of said holder, substantially as and for the purpose described.

(3. As a new article of manufacture, a Watch case having, inside of the same and attached to one of its lids or disks in central position, an overlapping stamp holder, and having this same lid or disk recessed or depressed at a point opposite such holder substantially as and for the purpose described.
