DEVICE FOR BABY-FOOD REGULATORS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 542,993, dated July 23, 1895. Application filed April 11, 1895- Serial No. 545,397. (No model.)

"To all whom it may concern:

4 Food Regulators, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved device which is to be attached to the rubber tubes of babybottles. The implement is attached to the rubber tube by inserting the tube through the round hole at one end of the main piece and carrying it through the hole at the other end. By moving the slide on the main piece the food-supply can be diminished in proportion to the distance to which the slide is extended, and the supply will be shut ofi altogether by moving the slide as far as it will go. I-Ieretofore it has been the practice to tie a knot in the rubber tube to shutoff the supply, but it was impossible to regulate it. At other times, when a child required an empty bottle to simply quiet him or her, a similar practice was followed to prevent wind from being taken into the stomach.

The objects of my invention areto remedy these defects by providing a device which can be readily adjusted to regulate the supply of food and is at all times ready for use.

My device is also constructed without any projecting points on the outside with a View of preventing the child from being injured by coming in contact with it.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is an upright view of the implement, showing all the parts in place. Fig. 2 is end view of the main piece. Fig. 3 is a plan showing a cross-section of the main piece. Fig. 4. shows a View of the top of the main piece. Fig. 5 is a side view of the slide. Fig. 6 is an end view of the slide. Fig. 7 is a side View of the tongue. Fig. 8 is a top view of the tongue.

My invention consists of a device comprising the hollow main piece A, which is flat at the slide and project downward through the opening H. The tongue D barely touches the tongue when at rest, and. when the slide is moved along the main piece this tongue presses on the tongue and causes it to grad ually close down on the rubber tube. The tongue E projects just far enough through the opening so that it will press against the end of it and prevent the slide from being moved too far. The tongue is connected at G by a rivet running through a joint at the end of the tongue.

I are cross-cuts for the purpose of holding the slide in place when moved to any of these points in order to diminish the supply of food.

Having now described the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

An improved device to be attached to the rubber tubes of feeding bottles for the purpose of regulating the consumption of food therein, consisting of a mainpiece having an opening atthe top and at each end; a slide, having two tongues, to move back and forth on the mainpiece; and a tongue having a joint at one end which is connected to the mainpiece by a pivot substantially as described.
