JOHN MURRAY GUILBEBT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
NE C KWEAR-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 542,473, dated July 9, 1895.
i Application filed March 25, 1895. Serial No. 543,013. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN MURRAY GUIL- BERT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia; State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Neckwear-Fasteners, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a neckwear-retainer constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
Figures 1 and 2 represent side elevations of a neckwear-fastener embodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of the fastener as applied in position and in operation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts imhe several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the body of a neckwear-fastener formed of wire and consistingof the loops B, O, and D and the pin E. The loop B has the pin E pendent from the limb a thereof. The 100p Gjoins the limb b of the loop B and the limb c of the loop D. The limb cl of said loop D has on its lower end the prong F, whichis preferably hook-shaped andadapted to pierce the fabric of the head or knot of the article of neckwear.
In order to apply the fastener in position, the pin is inserted into the head or knot so that the point portion of the same projects to a sufficient extent to be engaged by the the prong F, which pierces the fabric, limits the upward motion of said pin, whereby the fastener is securely held in position.
When the neokband is pierced by the pin, the bend or cross-bar G at the bottom of the loop 0 limits the extent of penetrationof the pin into the fabric of the band and forms an abutment for the portion of said fabric about the opening formed by the pin, the samereceiving the upward pressureor thrust of said portion when the band is in service on the neck, and thus preventing the band from slipping upwardly on the pin beyond the required extent.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A neck Wear retainer consisting of a single piece of wire composing the loops B, O, and D, and the pin E, said pin being pendent from one limb of the loop B, and a pendent limb of the loop D having a prong F below thebencl of said loop B, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A neck wear retainer consisting of a piece of material having the loops B, C, and D with the pin E, said loop D having on one end the prong F below the bend of the loop B, and the cross bar G of the loop 0 forming a stop for the neck band when engaged by the pin E, said parts being combined sub: stantially as described.
JOHN MURRAY GUILBERT.
