IMPROVED DISINFEOTING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 54,225, dated April 24, 1866.
To all whom it may conceznr' Be it known that I, JOHN M. SGUDDER, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have in vented a new and useful Disinfecting Appa-v ratus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to a portable apparatus for disinfecting or destroying animal and other miasms.
Figure 1 represents a disinfecting apparatus embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an axial section ofthe atomizer. Fig.3shows an atomizer adapted to a small portable generator.
A may represent a portable steam generator or boiler of any suitable form. B is a flexible hose for conveying steam from the boiler. The hose B terminates in a metallic or other suitable nozzle, O, having a cock, D.
E is a metallic or other suitable container, which is charged with a solution of chlorinated sodaor other suitable disinfecting agentin fluid form. A pipe, F, leads from near the bottom of the containerE upward through the open mouth thereof, and terminates in a nozzle, G, whose ventage is a little underneath and in front of that of the nozzle 0. The nozzles O and Gare secured together in their proper relative positions by means of a brace or bracket, H.
An arm, I, extends upward and forward from the nozzle 0 and terminates immediately over the point of issue in an eye, J, by which the atomizer is held suspended either by the hand of the operator orwhere the atomizer is to be applied in sewers, vaults, or cesspOols-by a hook K.
In the operation of this apparatus the steam generated in the boiler, issuing from the horizontal nozzle 0 immediately over the ventage of the vertical nozzle G, relieves said ventage of the atmospheric pressure and enables. said pressure Within the container to force a stream of the disinfecting-fluid out through the nozzle G, to be carried off and diffused by the current of steam.
I have described nozzles of metal, but they may be of glass or other suitable material and in place of the chlorinated soda I may use chloride of lime or one or more of the soluble sulphites, sulphates, or permanganates.
At Fig.3 is shown the application of my invention to a small lamp generator, suitable for domestic or hospital use, the same letters referring to corresponding parts.
I claim herein as new and of my invention- The disinfecting apparatus consisting of the atomizer O D E F I J and a portable steamgenerator, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
JOHN M. SOUDDER.
