Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed May 2, 1916. Serial No. 94,903.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, J OSEPH L. NYLANDER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Douche-Cans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to surgical appliances for use in hospitals; and it consists of a douche can or irrigator constructed with a concealed delivery spout as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a douche can constructed according to this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, from below. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the lower part of the can, taken on the line mw in Fig. 2.
The douche can 2 is a vessel of any approved form for holding liquid, and it is preferably formed of thin sheet metal coated with enamel or other protective material.
As heretofore constructed douche cans have had delivery spouts at their lower parts which projected from the can and were liable to be broken ofli. The enamel also became defective, especially when a broken spout was repaired, and the metal of the can and spout became'oXidiZed by exposure with the risk of the liquid carrying poisonous substances with it into the body of the patient.
According to this invention, the lower part of the can, and preferably its bottom, is
swaging the thin sheet metal into the form of an inverted basin. The delivery spout 4. is secured to the inside of this pocket so that it does not project beyond the surface of the can. A channel 5 is swaged in the can opposite the outer end of the spout 4.
The spout 4 is arranged in a substantially horizontal position, and the flexible irrigat ing tube is slipped into engagement with the spout and projects through the channel 5. The can is provided with any suitable eye or ring 7 for suspending it from a stationary support. I do not restrict myself to placing the delivery spout at the bottom of the can, as it may be arranged at one side of the can in carrying out this invention.
What I claim is:
1. A douche can provided at its lower part with an inwardly projecting pocket and having a delivery spout arranged within the said pocket, said can having also a channel at one side of the pocket in front of the spout to accommodate a delivery tube.
2. A douche can provided with an inverted basin-shaped pocket which projects inwardly from its bottom, and having a substantially slightly curved delivery spout arranged within the said pocket, said can having also a channel, for the delivery tube, in one side of the pocket in front of the spout.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
JOSEPH L. NYLANDER.
