I. LEVY.
DUMPING WAGON. No. 540,995. Patente -J ne 11,1895.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIE.\
ISAAC LEVY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DUMPlNG-WAGON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,995, dated June 11, 1895.
Application filed March 27, 1895.
7 of theUnited States, residing at Philadelphia,
in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and .useful Improvements in-Dumping-Wagons;
and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in chutes for dumping wagons, and the aim of my invention is to produce a chute which is removably held to the tail board of a wagon, and hinged to the wagon engaging sliding strips, whereby the angle at which it is desired to use the chute, may beregulated, regardless of the position that the wagon assumes.
A further object of the invention resides in pivoting a swinging partition board to the front side wall of thehinged chute, whereby the coal or other material. being dumped, may be conveyed to one side or the other of the wagon, as desired through laterally disposed channels.
To such ends and to others as the invention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I clearly illustrate my invent'on in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, and in which drawings similar letters'of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure l-is a perspective View of the chute as attached to the tail-board of a'wagon. Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
.Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the tail' Serial No. 543,353. (No model.)
board of an end board of a wagon, having a chute B secured about the aperture 0 of the tail board. Secured to the bottom of the wagon box are the cleats D, which may be bolted securely to the box, or they may slide in the dovetailed pieces E, shown in Fig. 3, whereby the said cleats may be readily removed. To the outer end of the cleats D is hinged the chute F, having the two inclined laterally disposed outlets G, G. An inwardly eXtending floor to the said chute F, rests, when the chute'is adjusted for use, directly under the free end of the chute B, to receive the coal being dumped. To the middle portion of the side wall of the chute F is secured a hook I) to which the chain J is adjustably held, the other end of the chain being held to a pin on the upper edge of the tail board A. By this provision the angle of the chute may be regulated when it is desired to dump the load of coal. Hinged to the middle portion of the board F on its inside, is the gate or board K, the free end of which is adapted to rest against the corners e, e, of the chute, as it is desired to deflect the coal coming from the wagon, to. one side or the other.
My improved chute, it will be seen may be readily applied to any wagon, and may be swung over, when not in use, as seen in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I In combination withaduinping wagon, the
extensible bars Dheld to the vehicle box, the
