Description
T. WRIGHT.
DELIVERY NOSE FOR GHUTE WAGONS. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 6, 1912.

DELIVERY-NOSE FOR CHUTE-VJAGONS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Delivery-Nose for ChutelVagons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wagons of that type designed to discharge their contents into chutes, and primarily to delivery noses for use either upon the sides or tail board of the wagon box or body.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a delivery nose, the bottom of which can be shifted so as to cause the material, while passing through the nose, to be discharged in any direction desired.
Another object is to provide a structure of this character which is simple and compact and which can be easily manipulated.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred forms of the invention have been shown.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a wagon body having a delivery nose the bottom of which is shown lowered so as to direct material toward one side of the body and into a chute, said chute being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the delivery nose and showing the bottom fastened in raised position.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the wagon body or box and extending from one wall thereof is a delivery nose 11. It will be noted that this nose has a sliding gate 12 at its rear end and that the bottom 13 of the nose is provided, at each end, with a sleeve 14. Each of these sleeves is adapted to assume a position between and in alinement with spaced sleeves 15 extending from one side of the nose. When the sleeves 14 and 15 are thus in alinement they receive holding Specification of Letters Patent.

pins 16 which are removably mounted therein. Each holding pin may be secured in place by means of a locking pin 17 extending transversely through one end thereof, this locking pin being held to the body 1 by means of a chain 18 or any other flexible connection.
When the two pins 16 are in place, the bottom 13 is of course held straight across the nose 11 and, by raising gate 12, material will be discharged over the bottom 13 and from the back end of the nose. By closing the gate 12, however, and removing the pin 16 at the right side of the nose 11, the bottom 13 can be swung downwardly about the other pin 16 as a pivot, so that the material directed into the nose will fall through the open bottom thereof and onto the lowered plate 13 which will direct the material laterally into a chute 19 or the like in position thereunder. By reversing the position of the bottom 13, the material can be delivered toward the other side of the wagon.
It is to be understood that any other means than those shown and described can be provided for securing the pins 16 in place. Furthermore, instead of having the sides of the nose converging rearwardly, they can be disposed in parallel planes if it is deemed desirable to so arrange them.
What is claimed is 1. The combination with a wagon body having an outlet opening in one wall, of a delivery nose for receiving material from the body, said nose including spaced walls extending from the body at points adjacent the opening, means for closing the discharge end of the nose, and a bottom connected to the walls of the nose and adapted to swing downwardly relative to either of said walls to open the bottom,
2. The combination with a wagon body having an outlet opening, of a delivery nose fixed relative to and extending from the opening and adapted to discharge material through the bottom thereof or from one end, a closure for the bottom, and separable hinge connections between the sides of the bottom and the sides of the nose.
3. The combination with a wagon body having an out-let opening, of a delivery nose extending from the opening and adapted to discharge material through the bottom thereof or from one end, a bottom closure, separable hinge connections between as my own, I have hereto affixed my signathe slcles of smd closure and the sldes of the ture in the presence of two Witnesses. nose said bottom closure bein shiftable 7 relative to the nose for disch rging ma- THOMAS 5 terial in either of tWo directions from the Witnesses:
