Description

(No Model.) I G. LEHLBAGH.
SUBMERGED SEWER 0R DRAIN OUTLET.
No. 540,672. Patented June 11,1895.
WITNESQES: INVENTORY,
UNI ED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV LEHLBACH, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
SUBME RGED SEWEROR DRAIN OU TLET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 540,672, dated June 11, 1895.
Application filed July 16,1894. Serial No. 517,761. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV LEHLBAOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Submerged Sewer or Drain Outlets; and I do hereby declare the followingtobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The invention relates more particularly to the construction of adevice to be used'where it may be desirable to have a submerged discharge or outlet for a sewer or drain into any body of water, at any desirable distance above the bottom, and at any required distance from the shore,-and the improvement is set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal View of the anchor-plate along the axis of \the sewer or drain at the outlet. Fig. 2 is a front view of the anchor-plate at the outlet, looking toward the shore. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the rear part of the anchor-plate, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal plan of the anchor-plate.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in all the figures. v
The anchor-plate is composed of the bed plate A A, the inclined brackets B, B to which is bolted the upturned end of the sewer or drain pipe, the block B to which is bolted the horizontal part of the sewer or drain pipe, and the projections FFcast on the bed plate upon its under side, which projections are designed to prevent the lateral displacement of the anchor plate when in place, by currents or heavy seas. The anchor plate can be made either of cast iron, or of wrought iron, or of wood with ballasting material attached to it sufticientto hold it securely in place; but being preferably made of cast iron.
0 O are wrought iron collars by which the sewer pipe D D is securely bolted to the anchor-plate. (Other suitable devices for this purpose can be substituted.)
E in Fig. 1 is an eyebolt to which a chain is fastened, there being another corresponding eye bolt on the opposite side of the anchorplate.
G G in Fig. 4 is the chain used for attaching the hauling line by which the whole sewer, or drain" pipe with anchor-plate at tached is dragged to the desired position.
The object of my invention is to furnish economically,a free and constantly open outlet for any submerged pipe, at any desired distance from shore and in any desired depth of water, avoiding the necessity of driving piles and securing the pipe to them under water, which is an expensive process. I obtain this object by the construction of an anchor plate substantially as shown, which has a fiat bearing surface of sufficient area for each special caseso that its weight will not press it into the sand, mud or other material of the bottom to any considerable extent, and
arranging the brackets B B of the anchorplate in such manner that when the pipe is bolted upon the anchor-plate as shown upon Fig. 1 its mouth will be permanently held at that at no time will there be any danger of the mouth of the pipe being covered or stopped up by the sand, mud or other material of the bottom. This arrangement can also be used as an intake, where it is desired to draw water by suction from any desired depth above the bottomi Having thus described my in-vention,what I claim, and for which I desire to secure Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a horizontally arranged sewer or drain pipe having an upturned end, of an anchor comprising the base plate A, the bracket 13 secured thereto, having an inclined seat to receive the upturned end of the pipe, and the block B, also secured to said base plate, to receive a horizontal portion of the pipe, and suitable fastening devices for securing the pipe to said bracket, block, and base plate, substantially as described.
