T. REIDY. PLATFORM FOR WELLS 0R OISTERNS.
Patented Nov. 5, 1889.
V ODD Wu H W mm 1 I vvuamtoz UNITED STATES PATENT THOMAS REIDY, or QUINCY, ILLINOIS.
PLATFORM FOR WELLS OR ens-reams.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,584, dated Never her 5, 1889.
Application filed July 20, 1889- To all 107110770 it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS REIDY, of Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Platforms for ells 0r Cisterns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in platforms for wells and cisterns, the objectbeing to provide a cheap, durable, and neat-appearin g metal platform, and one which may be easily kept dry and free from the 210 cumulation of dirt.
With this end in View my invention consists in a cast-metal plate corrugated or grooved to drain off the water which may spatter upon it and provided with a watertrough and a raised rim or frame, and certain other novel features of construction and coinbinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 is a section.
A represents the platform. It is preferably made of cast metal in one piece and rectangular in shape, with beveled, ogee, or otherwise finished edges 1 1 1 1. There is a hole 2 in the center of the platform for the pump, and a raised frame 3 is formed around this hole, and the box on which the pump is usually fastened sits over this frame, and holts l 4 or other devices pass through the holes 5 5, made in the platform. These bolts are half-round over the platform and have holes in them to receive screws or bolts, by which they are fastened. Nuts are screwed onto their lower ends, and by this means they $erial No. 318,115. (No model.)
are held in place and the box is retained securely in position.
A trough 6 is formed on one side of the platform.
The platform is grooved, ridged, or corru gated radially from the center over its entire upper surface in order to shed the water which falls upon it and to keep the platform dry and clean.
The advantages are principally that the platform is strong and fire-proof, as well as neat-appearing and inexpensive, and in this connection it may be remarked that other shapes might be employed and slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit'myself to the particular construction herein set forth; but,
Having fully described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, is-
1. Aplatform having an opening therein, a raised frame around this opening, a trough, and grooves, ribs, or corrugations, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with a cast-metal plate having grooves, ribs, or corrugations therein and a raised frame and trough, of a box and bolts or other means for securing the box to the plate, substantially asset forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
'lIlOM AS REIDY.
