useful Improvements in Bicycle-Habits, of

which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention is an improvement in bicy cle habits and is in the nature of a skirt divided at the back and made with folds at the rear which are so combined with the interior partitions forming leg portions that when the garment is in use on the cycle the limbs are free to work the pedals, the folds falling on each side of the saddle and when the lady no difference from the ordinary skirt can be detected either at the front or rear.

The invention consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improvement as in use. Figs. 2 and 3 are respectively front and rear views of the habit. Fig. 4 is a section on about line a: a: of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, drawn to a smaller scale and showing the two leg portions as they appear usually. The habit consists of a skirt A, the front 0 of which may if desired be stitched at its edges 0 C and forming at its upper end a flap secured at one edge at one side of the fly A and having fastenings B by which its other edge may be secured at the opposite side of the fly. These fastenings B and the fastenings B on the part A may preferably be buttons as shown, and I also provide a row of buttons B opposite the buttons B to make the front of the skirt symmetrical.

The skirt as shown most clearly in Figs. 1, 3 and 5 is divided atthe back and is formed with the interior partitions a forming the leg portions, such partitions a connecting with folds act at both sides of the center of the back,

such folds being secured at their upper ends to the waist band D and falling loosely therefrom on opposite sides of the center down past and below the crotch a When the wearer is on the machine the folds will fall freely on both sides and not interfere in the least with the free movement of the limbs, and yet when the wearer is off the machine the folds on each side will fall together and to ward those on the other side in such a manner as to elfectually conceal the division and crotch and give the appearance of an ordinary skirt so that the skirt may serve either as a habit or as a walking skirt. This skirt being divided at the back'is also provided within the skirt with a fly and with a flap to cover the same and avoid anyunusual appearance at the front of the skirt.

It will be readily understood that the improved habit hereinbefore described while requiring comparatively little material in its production and presenting an aesthetic appearance is particularly well adapted for the pursteps from the machine the rear folds close into the appearance of an ordinary skirt and poses for which it is intend-ed, viz: to afford safety and protection to lady riders and give them such fredom in their movements as to allow them to easily get on and off the machine and thus avoid serious accidents.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A skirt divided at the back, having a waist band and interior partitions forming leg portions which have vertically disposed folds at their rear portions, such folds being secured at their upper ends to the waist band and falling in loose folds therefrom on opposite sides of the center, substantially as set forth.

2. A skirt divided at the back made with a waist band, a crotch, and the interior partitions, the latter having their portions in rear of the crotch and at opposite sides of the center of the back of the skirt formed in folds such folds being fixed at their upper ends to the waist band and falling loosely therefrom down past and below the crotch, all substantially as set forth.

3. A skirt comprising a body portion, a crotch, leg portions and a fly at the upper ends of the front of the body above the crotch, the front breadth of the skirt forming a flap having one edge secured at a point to one side of the fly and fastenings by which the opposite edge of the flap may be secured upon the other, side of the fly, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
