To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN ZUPPINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Cutters for Looms; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cloth cutters for looms, adapted especially for use on double width weaving machines and designed to be supported by each edge of the cloth and to bear against the protection board, or in case a protection board is not used, then to bear directly against the roller, the cutter in the latter case to be reversed, as hereinafter more fully described.

Heretofore it has been the custom to secure the cutter to some part of the loom, and being held rigid, and as the work does not run straight, will cut into the edges of the cloth. To overcome this objection, I produce a cutter having a wide portion provided with slits in which the adjacent edges of the strips of cloth may enter, with the cutting edge between the two widths of cloth.

To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists further in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.

I clearly illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which with the letters of reference marked thereon form a part of this specification, and in which drawings, similarletters of reference indicate like parts, and in which drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cloth-roll on a loom, showing the protection-rail and the cutter carried on the edges of the cloth. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the cutter removed, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line as a: of Fig. 2.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a cloth roller of a loom; B, the double widths of cloth wound thereon; 'O, the protection board covering the roller 0, and D is the cutter which is secured to fiat metallic member E which is provided with the slots 01 extending from the two side edges into the cutter. 1

G is a sliding member having the bifurcated end G securely fitting the apertures g, and the L-shaped portion at its other end, which is designed to abut against the protection board, or in case no protection board is used then to bear against the roller 0. The adjacent edges of the widths of cloth engage in the slots 01 and support the cutter, while the substantially L-shaped portion bears against the protection board or roller. When being used in connection with the former, the portion G has the L-shaped portion upturned, and when in use with the roller downwardly turned.

It will be readily seen that a cutter made in accordance with my invention will prevent the sides of the cloth being out into, in case the work does not run straight.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As animproved article of manufacture a cloth cutter for looms consisting of a head E, a fixed cutting edge carried thereon, a reversible holder G engaging with said head which is adapted to be held by the adjacent edges of widths of cloth being separated, and a protection board, all combined substantially as shown and described.

2. In a cloth cutter, the combination of the reversible holder G, the head E h'aving lateral slotted edges, the cutting edge mounted on said head, the slots of the member Gr designed to engage in apertures in the head portion, the substantially right angled abutting'portion on said holder and the protection board, substantially as shown and described.
