SAW-FILE GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,827, dated April 23, 1 895.
Application filed July fl, 1894. Serial No. 516 ,389- (No model.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST KAEMPFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State anism from the under side, with the slotted guide plates broken away. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the slotted guide plates set with the guide bar at right angles to the parallel bars (3 O. v
Like parts are referred to throughout by means of the same reference letters.
The saw A is supported in the vice B with the teeth upward. A bar or bars 0, preferably two parallel bars, are provided at each end with the attaching clamps D adapted to engage against the sides of the saw and to support the bars 0 above, and approximately parallel to the line of the saw teeth as shown in Fig. 1. A traveler E is adapted to be supported and guided by and between the bars 0, and is provided on its under side with the segment F, having the adjusting notches G. Pivotally supported underneath the plate E is the adjusting finger H provided with downwardly projecting flanges I I, and the upwardly projecting lug J which is adapted to fit into the notches G of the segment. The pivot bolt K passes up through the plate E and is provided with the thumb nut L for the purpose of tightening the finger H and looking it in place with the lug J in one of the notches G. Slotted guide plates M M, preferably formed in a single piece as shown, are hinged to the flanges I I and may be located in any position by means of the thumb nut N, on the hinge bolt 0,- thus enabling the operator to adjust the guide plates with the slots P P at any desired inclination from the vertical.
The guide bar R is removably attached to the file S, by means of the bracket F, provided with a set screw U, and is adapted to operate through the slots P P and guide the file S between the saw teeth.
By means of the adjusting finger H, the guide plates M M may be so set as to guide the file at any angle across the saw, necessary to give the teeth the desired bevel, and by means of the hinge bolt 0 and thumb nut N,
the file may be held at-any desirable inclination. The travelerE permits the guide mechanism to slide along the bars 0 O and bring the file in position to operate upon the saw teeth in succession.
In order that the Tile may be brought to bear upon the end teeth of the saw, I have provided an extension plate V attached to the end of the saw by the clamp W and set screw X. The outer clamp D can then be attached to the plate V, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A saw file guide, consisting of the combination of the bars 0, clamps D, traveler E, adjusting finger H, means for locking said finger H at any desired adjustment, slotted guide plates M M hinged to said adjusting finger, and means for locking said hinge with the slots at any desired inclination, together with a guide bar removably attached to a file and adapted to slide in said slots and guide said file between the saw teeth, substantially as described.
2. In a saw file guide, substantially as de-'
