To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, SELDEN F. GIBsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Biddeford, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pressing-Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to a pressing board for garments and it is particularly adapted for the use of dressmakersand others who desire to press the seams as well as the other portions of garments.

The object of the invention is to construct a pressing board which shall be cheap and simple of construction and which may be quickly and easily adjusted to press the seams or the flat portion of dresses or other garments.

My pressing board as I prefer to construct it, consists of a base board and a pressing arm supported above the same by means of a standard and a bridge. The end of the pressing arm has a stud which fits into a hole in the standard and the bridge has a vertical slot in its top which is adapted to receive and support the edge of the pressing arm and also to receive a flange or projection secured to the under side of the pressing arm so that the board can be readily turned to present the edge or the flat side upward.

I have illustrated my invention by means of the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is aside elevation. Fig. 2 is a section on the line mm of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section on the same showing the pressing arm tilted up in its vertical position.

A represents the base, B the pressing arm, and O is a standard secured to the end of the base for supporting one end of the pressing arm B. The end of the pressing arm is connected with the standard in such a manner as to allow the arm to lie down flat or vertically with its edge uppermost. In the former position it is used for pressing the flat portions of garments while in the latter position it is used for pressing seams. As here shown I make the connection between the end of the arm and the standard by forming a hole in the standard and a stud on the end of the arm fitting said hole. This stud I prefer to make round but it may be of any suitable shape. The body of the arm is supported by means of a bridge D secured to the base and so formed as to support the arm in its edgewise or its flatwise position. This I accomplish, as here shown, by forming in the top of the bridge a vertical slot or recess d which is adapted to receive and support the edge of the arm 13. This slot is also adapted to receive the flange or projection b which is secured to the under side of the arm l3 and holds it in place when in its flat position. A hook e is pivoted to the front side of the 6 5 bridge D and this hook engages an eye 9 in the edge of the flange b and an eye It in the edge of the arm according as one or the other rests in the slot 01.

When in ordinary use the board is in the position shown in Fig. 1. The stud f tits in the opening in the standard which supports the end, while the body of the arm rests on the top of the bridge the flange b resting in the slot d. The arm is held down by the hook e. If it is desired to use the edge of the pressing arm the hook e is released, the stud f withdrawn from its socket and the arm is turned to its vertical position with its edge upward, the lower edge resting in the slot d. So It is secured in position by the hook eengaging the eye h. In each of these positions the arm will remain firmly in place held as it is by the flange b or the edge of the board in the slot at. The free end of the arm B is designed I to be covered with cloth in the usual manner.

It will be seen that the arm 13 when it is unhooked is entirely "free from the rest of the board and may be easily handled for covering, cleaning or other purposes.

I claim The herein described pressing board consisting of a base, a standard secured thereto having an opening through its upper end, a pressing arm one end of which has a stud fit- 5 ting within said opening, the under side of said pressing arm being provided with a longitudinal flange or projection and a bridge having a vertical slot or recess in its top adapted to receive the edge of said pressing arm and said flange or projection and to support said arm in two positions.
