LAST STANDARD.
No. 566,081. Patented Aug. 18, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
- FOREST L. KOFFEL, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THOMAS S. OULP, OF
. SAME PLACE.
' standard.
LAST-STAN DARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 566,081, dated August 18, 1896.
Application filed January 4:, 1896. Serial No. 574,307. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, FOREST L. KOFFEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Last-Standards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the standard, showing the last attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the last and the top or upper end of the standard. Fig. 3 is a view showing the top or upper end of the standard, showing the last attached thereto and illustrating a side view of the last in dotted lines. Fig. 4 is a detached view of the last. Fig. 5 is a View of the top or upper end of the Fig. 6 is a similar view.
The present invention has relation to laststandards; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A repres'ents the standard, which may be of any desired length and is supported in an upright position by means of the base a, which base is securely attached in any convenient and well-known manner to the bottom or lower end of the standard A. The top or upper end of the standard A is provided with the hollow head-B, which hollow head is provided with the circular cover I), which circular cover or plate is provided with the slot 0, which slot is for the purpose hereinafter described. The last 0, so far as the shape of the last proper is concerned, is formed in the ordinary manner. The bottom or lower portion of the last is provided with the shank d, which shank is formed of a length to correspond, substantially, with the thickness of the circular cover or plate I).
To the bottom or lower end of the shank d is attached the bar 01, which bar is formed of such a length that it can be turned in the hollow head B.
In use the last is attached to the standard A by placing the shank d in the slot 0, which brings the bar d under the cover I), after which the last O can be rotated in either direction. The last 0 is provided with the lip d which lip is for the purpose of bracing the front or forward end of the last against the periphery of the cover or plate b, said lip being so located that it will be in close contact with the periphery of the cover or plate I) at all times. The lip d is for the purpose of bracing the last against the cover b and at the same time receiving the force of a blow upon the last when the last is struck upon its front end.
It will be understood that by forming the hollow head B the last can be turned at any angle and at the same time held in proper position upon the standard proper.
It will be understood that by providing the hollow head B and attaching the last 0 as above described said last will be securely held to the head and at the same time can be easily detached. The cover or plate 1) serves as a support for the last and receives the force of a blow upon the last, said cover or plate I) being of such a size that the last will have a sufficient amount of support at all times and under all circumstances.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the standard A, provided with a base and a hollow head located at the top or upper end of the standard, the circular cover or plate I), provided with the slot 0, the'last 0, provided with the shank d, having located at the bottom or lower. end of said shank the bar d, and the lip (1 formed upon the last 0, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
