J. HUTH & G. REX. CLOTHES LINE HOLDER.
No. 446,522. Patented Feb 17,1891.
$2 3141]; By range fa m 18 4 Wm Arron/mg En S'rne JOHN HUTH AND GEORGE REX, OE CANTON, OHIO.
CLGTHES LINE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,522, dated February 1'7, 1891.
Application filed November 20, 1839. Serial No. 331,000. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, JOHN IIUTH and GEORGE REX, citizens of the United States, residing at Canton, in'the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Holders; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which the drawing is an isometrical View showing the clothes line properly attached to its supports.
The present invention has relation to clothes-line holders; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the supporting-piece, which is provided with the right-angled flange a. This supporting-piece A is attached at the required height to a post or other object by means of screws or nails. To the supporting-piece A is pivotally attached the pawl B, which pawl is held in proper position by means of the post 0 and pin b. The bottom or lower end of the pawl B is provided with the extension 0, which is substantially of the form shown in the drawing, and is for the purpose hereinafter described.
The supporting-piece A is provided with the locking pin or post D, which is located substantially as shown, and,as shown, is provided upon one side with the groove (1.
For the purpose of preventing the pawl B from being drawn forward at its top or upper end to a distance so as to interfere with the stretching of the clothes-line E the pin Z) is provided, which is attached to the supporting piece A at a point so as to engage and stop the movements of the pawl In use the line E is placed in the groove (1 and the line E placed between the locking pin or post D and the extension 0, at which time the line E is drawn downward until it is tight, when said line is released from the hands and securely clamped between the locking pin or post D and the extension 0, the line E being indented into the groove (1 by means of the extension 0.
It will be seen that by placing the line E in the groove d? at the top or upper end of the pawl B said pawl will act as a lever and securely clamp the line E by means of the strain orpull of the line.
It will be seen that the line E can be clamped between the extension 0 and a pin or post not provided with the groove (1; but we prefer to provide the locking pin or post with the groove.
It will be seen that by providing the rightangled flange or extension a the supportingpiece A will be braced, thereby securely and better holding the supporting-piece A in' proper position.
I-Iaving fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the supporting-plate A, provided with the flange or side extension to, the pawl B, pivotally attached to the plate A and provided with the extension 0 and the groove (1 the locking-post D, provided with the groove d, and the stop-pin I), located below the pivoted point of the pawl B, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN I'IUTI-I. GEORGE REX. Witnesses:
E. A. 0. SMITH, F. IV. BOND.
