PATENT OEEICE.
THOMAS J. MOORE, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK,-ASSIGNOR .TO ESTHER J. MOORE, OF SAME PLACE.
DRANNERS-SUPPORTER.`
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,166, dated April 9, 1895.
Application tiled November 5, 1894. Serial No. 527,580. (Nomodel.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawers-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for supporting undergarments, especially mens drawers.
Usually mens drawers and similar undergarments are supported by strapsand spring jaw clamps connected to the front forked ends of the Suspenders or similar devices. These clamps are not readily disengaged from the waist band of the drawers or other undergarments and the teeth of the jaws are liable to tear the fabric.
My invention consists in a device for connecting the drawers or other undergarment at the waist band to the pants or other support at the Waist band, and comprises a plate of sheet material such as metal with an open center and with holes in pairs by which it is secured by sewing to the inner face of the waist band of the pants or other support.
`Two of these plates are preferably employed and they are usually located about midway between the pairs of front suspender buttons. The plate is made with horizontal and vertical intersecting openings or slots constituting an open center similar in shape to a quarterfoil, the opposite ends of one slot being preferably narrower than the opposite ends of the other slot, the narrower ends being in use set horizontal. Buttons are sewed to the outer face of thewast-band of the drawers or other undergarment, to coincide with the plateson the waistband of the pants or other article of clothing.
In use the button is tipped to bring its lower edge forward and the button is inserted edgewise through tho horizontal slot in the plate and is simultaneously turned parallel to the fabric of the pants, and the weight of the drawers or undergarment causes the button to move down between the plate and pants so that the shank or attachment of the button inds a seat in the lower end of the vertical opening in the plate. By pressing on the outside of the pants the top edge of the button is tipped back so that it can be lifted out.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the inner face of part of a pants waistband showing a plate and a button in place, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section in larger size.
by the cloth a and` connected lining b, and the waistband c of the drawers is shown of double thickness and to this latter the button d is secured by sewing threads or otherwise at e.
with several pairs of holes 2 for the sewing threads by which it is secured to the inner face of the pants waistband and preferably midway between the'suspender buttons 3 4. The plate f has' an'open center preferably of quarter-foil conformation with-'vertical and horizontal intersecting openings or slots. -Usually the opposite horizontal opening 4 is' narrower than the other and vertical opening 5, the plate being sewed to the pants waist band so that the narrower opening is set horizontally. The ends of the openings are preferably rounded. The ends of the opening 5 are adapted to receivethe button attachment or conform to the circular button shank and receive the same so that there is little liability of the button shifting andgno liability of the sewing threads e being cut by coming in contact with the plate f.
T-he size of `the opening 4 is sufficient to freely receive the head of the button el, and in connecting the drawers to the pants for support' the lower edge of the button is tipped forward and the head is passed edgewise through the horizontal part of the opening and is'sirnultaneously turned into a vertical the button to move down between the` plate and the pants so that the circular shank finds a seatin the curved portion 5 of the plate.
7 Pressure on the outside ofthe pants tips the top edge of the button back'so thatit can be lifted o ut of the plate readily and quickly.
My device is exceedingly simple, efficient, and easily applied.
